  • I'd hold off and get a set of Flo's http://www.flocycling.com/store/index.php or look on time trialling forum for a second hand set of a disc and deep and wide front. the FFWDs are supposed to be robust wheels but they are narrow, and in reality a disc is going to be faster in almost all situations (certainly any that you are going to take that chain set on ;)

  • Cheers, interesting point. I did think about wider rims but was put off when I found that the chainstay clearance dates from an era where narrow and tight was the order of the day...

I'm not sold on used wheels, although I guess TT sets are likely to have seen the lightest use. I'm nearly 90kg, maybe down to 84 on my best day, so have always felt like I'd rather not find a fault in a wheelset the hard way.

Will see what else I can find and give it some more thought.

With wire spokes, you are taking a chance on invisible ageing. 'Proper' discs and H3s are pretty bomb proof, plenty of Specialized trispokes are still running fine and they are all at least 20 years old by now.
