That's probably less than I'll end up spending.
And more bike than you will get if you go down the Meta SL route.
But yes I appreciate building up stuff is fun, but in MTB world that's a crazy slippery slope to epic spendage. Even my buget F5 build (£70 frame, £260 fork) ended up being spendy.

Dyad puts me off somewhat. What if they stop making / supporting them now Denke is working for Specialised?

Shame Pauls no longer sell Kona. I could go for a megabargain Process or Honzo :-/

mmm process perfect for Epping as you say

Why else would they have filmed this in Epping....

This is very true.
I started off just swapping out a f&f. Then it all went wrong.
Trying to reign things in a bit now.

I like the bit where they stop at the highbeech cafe for angel cake and instant coffee

I'd just get whatever comes up at a good price, I've got 150mm revs and they're fine on my big bike, but I do only weight 10stone

Edging towards the x-fusion slant.
I can get them darn cheap, they are stiff, not mad heavy, and sound like they will perform well.
The minute pro seemed to fit the bill. But it's heavier than the slant, with smaller stanchions. So might as well get the cheaper slant.
Going 130mm to start with. I'll get the x-fusion rear shock to match. It has a remote I can route through the front mech routing of the frame (going 1 X 11). That way I can lock front and rear relatively easily (I'll have a tiny headtube, so reaching the fork switch doesn't require a remote really).

such budget, wow
Leftynews! TF have got the new leg, and re-built her with a new damper as well.
So basically its been replaced via the Trigger's Broom
method. -

I was lucky enough to find a 1x group cheap. Taken off a new bike. Barely ridden. Win.
Which will help me pay for the expensive special freehub

The sram driver? Hmmm.
Found a replacement freehub for the knackered one on my ancient mavic / cannondale wheelset; £26 from, um, specialised. felt pricey.

Not South but I used to regularly train Tring to Woburn and I don't remember any major issues.

120mm 26" 32mm forks are not flexy esp if 15mm.
An extra 10mm is likely to make little difference to descending but might make for painful climbing.
What year Meta? Pre 2010s had a reputation for cracking I seem to remember.

Bit of fun in Bike Park Wales this weekend. Chainrings are toast so I'm thinking of moving to 1X10/11. Time to get researching.

2012.
Now looking at DT swiss XMM 120mm. They are said to be slightly stiffer the a revelation (reading forums). Which is more than stiff enough for me.
The climb function that lowers and stiffens them could be cool.
Thinking of getting a matching shock and running them both off one remote. Aa I'm running a 1x drive chain, the remote won't clutter my bars.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but what's the best option for a 10-speed 11-40T cassette? Would be lovely if Shimano made an XT one but they don't, presumably because they want to sell me 11-speed.
Options seem to be:
- Butcher an XT cassette and add a range extender (expensive, messy?)
- Sunrace (Any good? Where to buy in UK?)
- Praxis (As above?)
- Butcher an XT cassette and add a range extender (expensive, messy?)

Heh, your options appear to be spend a lot of money or spend a lot of money!
Personally I'd go lower on the chainring and put up with a 36. Means you can use a short cage mech, too.

I've already got a long cage XT mech on there. Don't fancy buying a £60 XT mech AND a £60 Hope range extender though.
