Messenger bags - thoughts please??

Posted on
  • Looking for a decent medium sized messenger for my daily commute. Have been using a Ynot Gulper backpack for a year or so - nothing wrong with it at all but like the idea of a single strap.

So considering a Ynot messenger but would welcome thoughts / opionions / experience on: Chrome Citizen, Blahol, Trash or Reload. Would prefer to buy in the UK to avoid hefty postage and import duty costs and also welcome to second hand offers or swap for my bag. Thanks.

  • If you can't get a Pac Designs (which you can't, made in Canada and not made anymore)

These are the best of the rest IMO http://trakke.co.uk/shop/mule/

If not Chrome are alright and just about boom proof.

lots of ideas and thoughts hear too http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/138428/?offset=1325#comment12041621

  • Thanks @bazschmaz looking for something a bit bigger around 25 - 30 litres. Ynot junction is looking favourite at the moment.

  • Thanks @matteroftaste they look good, definitely one to consider.

  • Pac design are apparently still available via pat directly via pac design facebook, message her. The website has long since died.
Timbuk2, chrome, bailey works, rickshaw and manhattan portage are legendary names from the US.
Bagaboo from hungry are great with load of customability and a bargain.
For ultimate black rainbow project is unsurpassable not sure if still making bags, you can message on lfgss.
For the artisan in you beduoin foundry looks loads cool. Made in uk with great heritage materials all from the UK.
For smaller a bag bigxtop as said earlier can't be beaten at great price too, great features and well made. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the pointers @wildwest, have been looking at custom options from Trash bags and Reload in the States, quality looking bags but carriage and potential import duty adds £50+. Pity none of them have UK distribution.
Bagaboo is looking favourite with their custom options.

  • Black Rainbow Project ;)

  • Trakke or Restrap would be my choice.

They are quite nice. The Workhorse is very much inspired by Pac. Quality and workmanship is stellar. The flexibility of its maker is incredible-- too good since it makes it so hard to choose. Really one of the absolute best bags you can get at a price that competes with some of the popular but inferior big brands now made in Asia.

  • My go-to is still the old school cotton/vinyl "paperboy" bag I got for courier work yonks ago. Tough, light, simple (one strap, one flap - nothing to go wrong). Great for commuting because work schmutter comes out wearable not crumpled rags and massive capacity when you need it.

No designer cred or hipster bollocks just an immensely practical utilitarian tool.

  • This guy can make your bag exactly as you want, and is in the UK... actually he's in my house, right now!
