At the time there was not much choice of chainring sizes, White Industries offer a big range allowing you to go as low as 44/28 (and lower) than sticking to the standard 50/34 which is a little high.
I thought they might be TA Carmina, but the spindle end of the crank is not quite right. The Carmina's are lush though.
