  • Always hated the pomp forks and had some 26" forks + wheel knocking around thought I would chuck them on part of the ongoing pompeur experiment.

Very low axle to crown on the onza forks (way lighter than the pomp forks) , dropped the BB just half an inch, not sure how much that means at the front as I forgot to measure the height before. But the weight definitely feels lower, really nice and stable + wide gusset stash bars help.

Pretty much perfect apart from need to put flaps on guards and maybe go disk on the front...

  • I can't compare with the pomp fork as I didn't buy a frameset.
The handling is really fine to me. It's comfortable yet reactive enough on mtb single track

  • Anybode tried fitting Surly Knard 41's on a Pompetamine?

I suggest it would be close call but not impossible.

700×40 Marathon Supreme doesn't fit in a safe manner at the back

  • Damn. I got 35mm Rapid Robs right now, and there is about 3mm space on each side of the tire.

  • I got 35mm Rapid Robs right now, and there is about 3mm space on each side of the tire

So based on that, a 41mm Knard is going to be touching even before it gets dirty or your wheel goes slightly out of true.

  • I don't know if its just me but does anyone else find the back end of their pomp a little skittish at times? I've noticed it a couple of times recently in the wet when cornering it just feels like its on the verge of sliding out. From under me even at slow speeds.

Could it be a set up or positioning issue?

  • Try lowering pressure on the rear 10 psi for that predictable wet corner grip.

  • Depends how wide they are irl. I've used 42c tyres on pompetamine, have to put wheel all the way out in the drops, but they fit.

  • from finnish forums, the guy says that he would not ride and that the rear fits in the rearmost position.

so maybe with narrow rim it works, kinda

    Polo bikes thread >>>>

  • that thread had passed me by, onza forks as far as the eye can see!

  • I'm riding some rather wide bars I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Perhaps I'm not weighting the front of the bike enough or there is a leverage issue. I dunno :/

  • What panniers do people use on rear racks with a pompino? I have a Tortec rear rack and have heard that heel strike can be a real pain. Currently using a rack top drybag but I'm getting a fixed seatpost mounted light (http://sparse.cc/intl/fixed-light-system) so need to reassess.

Just need something to take clothes to work so it can be quite small.

The frame is a Large (I think) if that helps at all.

  • I have an XL pomp, a Tortec somethingorother rack and Ortlieb normal panniers. Don't know the model but they say "Weatherproof" on them. They are a bit smaller than some other Ortlieb ones that are very similar.

No heel strike. 170mm cranks. Size 44 Mavic shoes. PM me for detailed measurements of my genitals.

  • (Not of panniers)

But thanks. Might try some at my local cycle surgery

  • Got heel strike pretty bad on my pomp when I had a rear rack and panniers on it. Which sucks coz it'd be so good to have a rear rack and panniers on it now.

I've got size 11 feet though, ymmv.

  • Large Pompino, altura panniers, tortec ultralite rack, size 46 shoes , no heelstrke...

  • ... Just adjust the panniers so they sit further back

  • Just adjust the panniers so they sit further back

  • When it gets to this stage I think just buy a motorcycle for Christ's sake.

  • Sorry, only saw this this morning and I'm not on the bike today. This old pic from when I was still dialling in the cockpit is fine tho, as the backend's not changed.

  • Ignore the cockpit. Was still messing with position. The backend here is how I still run it.
