Are archetypes any better in quality than the DT R 460 DB? They are nearly double the price.
-
• #303
Hmm overarching reaction seems to be mini v's are better.
Cx9's you mean these? http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BLTRPCX9/trp-cx9-cantilever-brakes
I'm kind of into them and they are much cheaper than the avid's which are 55 each.
Also come in red dyslexia edit

• #304
swear them cx9 are v brakes? get them
-
• #305
I've had CX9s, cheap tektros, Pauls all as min vs. Also had various cantis. Unless you really need mud clearence go with Mini Vs.
Currently running the Shimano ones. really happy with them. step up from the cheaper tektros aesthetically and mnot CX9/Paul money
-
• #306
Grab them while you can. @timbre

Shimano cantis? They look pretty good actually
Tempted by the cx9 mini v's too, brakes is the most expensive part of the build so far really. Something a bit less might mean I can spend a bit more on the wheels
-
• #308
Sorry, should've been clearer. Shimano Mini Vs.
And echoing above, the Pauls were a ballache to set up.
-
• #309
Gave them a watch cheers, wonder how high it will go
-
• #310
If you go TRP get CX 8.4 rather than CX9.
-
• #311
why, they better?
-
• #312
got these cus red and look nice.
also ordered crankset and brake levers.
need to sort wheels next, then it's pretty much just finishing bits.
Seat post and clamp, freewheel will be white industries so gonna match the red
was thinking red seat clamp but might be a bit too much, red pedals tho
-
• #313
I really want one of those white industries freewheels but at £80 its a bit steep.
-
• #314
Have had enough shitty freewheels go wrong in the past so decided to get a good one.
Most of this build will be get it running for winter then upgrade so if I can get some of the important bit's that will last I will just swap around.
Thinking atm get novatec's to some rims (not sure what) and then next year when the shit weathers gone and I can save a bit put a nicer wheelset together.
Dream would be to grey archetypes or some low profile carbon. But not gonna happen atm

Sram v shimano lever pull innit?
-
• #316
I think those touches of red colour are very creative.
-
• #317
The 8.4's work better with Sram levers, and allow the pad to sit a little further from the rim, which is nice. with sram levers and CX9's your brakes will basically be touching the bars before you get any bite out of them.
That said, they will still be insanely powerful, just require a bit more faffing required to the get them set up perfectly.
-
• #318
they are worth the extra as you will never change it again!
-
• #319
Finished kinda.
Needs new freewheel, fizik stem is in post. Otherwise rides great, will be getting mudguards for the commute.
-
• #320
That bike means business, it is gonna serve you well
Sturmey archer freewheel is very good, only 10£ online. It will never break.
-
• #321
White Industries. Accept nothing less
Looks rad though, guessing this is what the bars went on?
-
• #322
The freewheel really feels like the part of the bike that lets it down at the moment so it will go on order pretty quickly.
Very happy with it tho, someone pulled out on me on the way home. I just squeezed my brakes and gently slowed to avoid him. Instead of brklzzing into the side of him like normal. Felt very good, will be a great winter bike when coupled with mudguards
-
• #323
Looks great! Ratio seems tiny though, especially for commuting? Is it quite hilly?
-
• #324
Heh no not hilly at all, I go straight through the epicentre of Londons famous London. Biggest hill is London Bridge.
It's actually not as tiny as it looks, 34 x 16 which works out as 57.7 gi, I think I will be upping it though as it's very spin to win
-
• #325
Yeah the bars went on this, nice to finally have some drops that fit me
get the Mini Vs BMX_fred linked too. or if you were going to go for the shorty ultimates like the ones you posted a photo of, a little more $$$ would get you some cx9s which would outperform them all
