Agreed for the Alfines, but the DT rims look decent and
-
• #278
Would love the Pauls but so dolla
-
• #279
Don't like the Alfines at all, prefer cantis although people have tried to persuade me towards mini v's
The rims are slightly less sexy but do have a brake track which would annoy me about the archtypes
-
• #280
Cantis are a pain in the arse. Mini Vs just work.
-
• #281
dunno do I read you correctly but archetypes have a machined brake track aswell
-
• #282
go for v-brakes!
-
• #283
Yeah I meant more about rubbing the anodising off
-
• #284
get r460s, they're really great, at least they have been for me so far, ride well, build easily, and are super cheap. The anodising will go on the H plus within a couple of rides anyhow.
and yes, get mini vs - http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BCTK926MV/tektro-926al-front-and-rear-mini-v-brakes - and replace the stock pads. they work great and are super easy to set up and maintain. There's not much advantage in cantis unless you need the mud clearance.

Right bro, here's the link to the wheels that I was on about.

And this is what they look like on the winter hack. (Minus decals and fenders)

If I get mini V's wtf do I do with those bits sticking out the front and back of the frame.
Will look gash no
-
• #288
Front is presumably removable. Nothing you can do about the back.

• #289
I recently bought one of these frames and like yourself have had many dilemmas on how to build it up. I went for the Paul canti brakes option only because i got a good deal on them, Sram s900 brake levers. When it came to rims i was humming and harring for ages in the end went for Archetypes grey ano. I know the anodising will come off after braking but I'm sure ill have to deal with it.

• #290
would you be able to send me a pic, think the grey archetypes would suit the frame so well. Whole grey black thing!
-
• #291
bits sticking out the front and back of the frame.
put a red light on the rear bit :-)
-
• #292
Ive not built the wheels or frame yet due to lack of paper with the queens head on it :(
-
• #293
I fear this may become my problem with this build if I get too carried away :D
-
• #294
Oh its easily done haha. I might start a thread of the build as I've never been bothered.
-
• #295
The question is black or silver hubs with black or silver spokes for the grey archetypes?
Black hubs - silver spokes - grey rim?
-
• #296
paul brakes are posh but tbh they're a pain in the ass to set up and my cheap shimano deore one works just as well
-
• #297
don't get v brakes, that flimsy thing used for tension will fall apart easily. cantis are much more exciting anf sturdy. Plus you will be able to post the bike in sscx thread.
-
• #298
I was going to go that yeah, black low flange novatecs, silver spokes and grey archetypes.
Would look good I think, black black then grey would be weird.
-
• #299
too much money for me
any other good options out there for canti's otherwise I will just go with avid shortys
-
• #300
deep china carbon.
you know it's right.
all those changes lower the sexyness though
