  • Cantilever brakes... Motherofgod.jpg

Just don't. I had some decent Shimano ones. They stop you. Then the pads wear a little bit and you have to pull a foot of cable to get them to stop you. Then you spend DAYS adjusting the pads. They don't work. You buy new pads. They still don't work. Then you go to the LBS and buy mini vees and all is right.

That is the joy of cantis. I've never been so annoyed in all of my futile bike maintenance attempts.

  • Canti are fine, just go for the good one like those mid range Tektro, shimano etc.

Biggest difference is running fork mounted cable hanger which allow you to lower the straddle cable and get great braking power with no fork judder.

  • Yeah I'm sure there is a knack to it, but mini vees just seem 100% better. Far less maintenance with what feels like the same power.

While we're on the brake topic does anyone know of a good deep drop brake? I have R560s, with new Swissstop green pads and they are quite weak compared to my dual-pivot 5800 series on the other bike. Is my only option really £100 TRPs?
