Ambrosio disc with gipiemme hub.

  • Hi for sale i have this disc here, its ratty, old, have fair amount of dings and dents, spins not extremely smooth and don't have a lockring thread. Its also very solid for street riding, cog won't slip even in extreme situations, runs true, sounds amazing. Comes with 16t velosolo alu cog and continental giro tub which will need changing soon. Had a great time commuting on this but now I need some tubs for other wheels so this must go. Located in Manchester. £100

  • Its also very solid for street riding, cog won't slip even in extreme situations...

What does this mean? The sprocket is permanently bonded to the hub?

  • I was wondering this too...

  • No its not, just regular cog thread but you can skid and stop like theres a lockring. If you read some you'll know that lockring is not essential.

  • And believe me i'm a 100kg dude with some serious muscle and power, and it never failed on me. If it won't sell for the price i'll just keep it for myself as the experience riding this is really great and I'll have it as a backup disc.

    No.

    lockring is not essential.

    On the track.

    ASL? I like 'em stupid.

i'll just keep it for myself

YOU'RE THREATENING NOT TO SELL IT??????? FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi how does your cog come off to change to another size - is it cross-threaded?
    GLWS

    Si

  • Thanks for your valuable input ;]. Obviously you know everything. I'm sorry that I annoyed you with this thread, master. :D:D

Edit: btw you made my day! :D

  • If it doesn't have a lockring, how is the sprocket staying on? If you're leg-braking, then you need a lockring or, at the very least, for the sprocket to be permanently bonded to the hub.

Using a road hub, fixed without a lockring is known as a "suicide conversion" for a reason.

If you're skidding with neither of those that's up to you, but if you're gone to state that something which is normally dangerous is safe, then you need to explain why that's the case.

  • There is a regular cog thread and no lockring thread, simple as this, I was riding it like this for long time brakeless, leg-breaking and skidding and unless your name is Forstemann you won't be able to unscrew the cog by riding, but it comes off easily with chain whip. Its known that low count cog won't unscrew from a hub, not enough leverage or something, i'm not a physicist, but i know that for sure from my experience.

  • id be sure this is an ambrosio disc with a gipiemme hub? ill bet you 20 bucks (AUD) that on the opposite side where you have threaded that track cog on a freewheel thread, if you unscrew that little cover, there will be a track and lockring thread. you can see it on the non drive side in your photo.
heres a picture of my ambrosio disc, freewheel thread one side track on the other with an interchangeable little screw on cover.

  • As much as you say its alright to run without a lockring I'd still be too worried to ride it. If there is a cover on the other side with track threads underneath I'll take it.

  • There is a cover and track threads but the cog thread is striped. I should mention that in the beginning. I could sell it as road disc but then again its spaced to 120mm with solid axle and nuts.

  • I sold the disc to Roe, ran it brklz with no lockring for over a year. I know this is not recommended in the slightest but the cog was on there very tight and no skidding or leg braking ever made it slip, very fun times were had on this disc though, GLWS

  • £115 price drop, thanks James
