  • Haha, now they say it's because of taking too much pain killers. ;-)

  • my buckler master has cowling on tt guides like esa, amd given the lack of chrome on the tt lugging, a trait seen on team painted bikes, i wondered if the two bikes were from earlier teams and repainted, someone in the team management just dealt with different sponsors, hence re colour, who knows/cares?

  • 89/90 purportedly, internal and old forks

  • I agree, the paint is very heavy, especially round the bottom bracket. Also the heavy chips there suggest a modern, maybe car paint finish. Not very convincing at all. The more I.look at it, the more I think 'modern repro'. It's a well done repro though, but not the real deal.

  • i have yet to see a repro that has chrome drop out slots

  • @JusCos change (or at least: lower) that stem too. And the bars. ;-)

  • i don't think teams would have changed the tt cabling from external to internal, my 88 esa has external

i picked up a set of nos black omega v's on nos 1st gen chorus (as is gruppo) this week
i saw them when i left amsterdam a year ago, they were still there on my return, so took them, will complete build when back
    home this week

  • regarding respray dropouts
the esa buckler was a team respray, you can see the drop out slots were over painted, the only metal visible is from axle/skewer insertion
i struggle with think that a late 80's bike with og external tt guide would have been updated with internal routing and cowls

  • the shop where i got the wheels is run by an old Gent and his son, the old Gent took my down his celler and showed me an nos Gazelle tt funny type bike with Nos Victory and bull horns, i have been a number of times to see if he has made a descision on price and on my last i said i don't want to be a pain in the arse and should i call it a day, he said no, so I said i shall return in the new year
    #fingerscrossed

  • Thanks for posting this catalogue - the red '92 Master Piu is the same paint job that mine has, and I'd always wondered how old mine was........

  • Hey @WimVDD
Yer totally with you there. It arrived Friday actually and I had a play with it yesterday. I changed the bar and stem to a silver Cinelli set but then swapped it back again as I preferred the 'look' of the black. The stem looks a lot nicer slammed down but I'm gonna be riding it and it wasn't a comfy fit so it went back up again although not as extreme. I've already an AD10 with a silver cockpit and it's nice to have this setup a bit different. I did however re-route the brake cables to the 'British' way for a bit more familiarity. I think it's pretty original too as it has a nice pair of Colnago oem Ambrosia Giro D'Italia 'servizio corse' rims and think the bar/stem combo was original fit as well. Just waiting for some replacement downtube bosses to fit (they're rusty and seized), gear cables, set-up and lubricate it then pray for some nice weather. I've been busy building up an '85 Alan Super Rec Cyclocross which will satisfy my urge to pedal and get a bit mucky this winter.

  • I 'm doing a 77 Alan cyclocross in 1 x6

  • Ah yes I saw that frame on your webpage. I really like the Alan's too. I see you're doing yours in nuovo record as well. I was going to go single chain wheel up front but seems a shame to not make use of the two Campag bar end shifters I have. I'm using it now actually with a mismatch of parts but have some record cantilever brakes and nuovo mechs to fit and the shifters of course when I have some time. I'm not a hardcore off roader and my mountain bikes don't get too much use anymore so this should suit my purpose perfectly. Mine has an 'ovalised' top tube which I thought at first damaged but I see yours has the same. What's all that about? Was it done purposely by the user for shoulder comfort or is it like that because of being squashed from being carried?

  • the oval tt made for carry comfort, i have a small roadie with one, must be an anomaly, i use it for cable guide spares on my carbitubo mono as the alan headtube lug has a crack, is ano blue so can make a for a wall piece and way cheaper than that homogenised ikea shite
the super cx will get two bar end shifter as it has cable guide eyelets on the dt, rd cable goes under chain stay like a roadie though
the alan has an rd cable guide across tt and inside ds seat stay, and no fd attachment other than a cable route under bb, so this will get an og gravel racer type gig
here it is with the recent 'dale urban assault beater aquisition

  • and this is the alan roadie, prior to some slag nicking the hard to find victory 25mm aero seatpost and brooks from covent garden ,london , broad daylight

  • Your cyclocross has the same cable configuration as mine albeit 8 years in age difference. I have a 28.6 seat tube for easy mounting of a clamp on front mech. Alan used some weird sizes at times didn't they for seat tubes.
That's a nice trio of cross bikes.
I will keep an eye out for a victory seat post for you but they're 25mm right?
There is this on eBay right now, it's 25mm. I know the chap selling it if you want me to hook you up.

  • Don't get me wrong, @juscos , it's a great bike! I would put another stem on it (straighter; I'm not a fan of "curved" stems) to give it an even more aggressive look.

Looks lots better with other tape. ;-)

  • Thanks for the heads up on post, I found one actually and it's back in London's London, was not too prohibitively expensive either

  • So yesterday i joined the "club"
Bought the it from a guy here on the forum.

Not sure how to build up yet. Bought a nice Campagnolo Record Carbon seatpost before getting the frame but turned out the seat tube isn't for 27,2mm which is a kind of bummer.

  • Welcome indeed to the rocky road of financial ruin! Only kidding of course. That's a real beauty, lovely colour, very understated and will sure build up into something special. Looking forward to seeing it more as you progress.

  • very very nice, Slaving it up or building it for training/ track purposes or an all rounder?

  • Thanks. It's going to be full slave haha

  • oh yeh? Spoke? Risers?

  • I keep the Cosmic Carbon as front but yeah risers for sure. I have a nice pair of Easton EC70 waiting for a use. However not sure about the seatpost.
