  • "We have had some players come to us at Arsenal from other clubs abroad and their red blood cell count has been abnormally high,"

Irony coming from the manager of the team that's often described as the least fit, with the most outdated training programme, and often the team carrying the most injuries.

  • The biggest irony being that Wenger created the fittest squad and introduced the most up to date training techniques at the beginning of his Arsenal career.

A proper cycling fan will need to help me out here but I seem to remember that one of the journalists who went after Armstrong mentioned that he had seen a lot of sinister things going on in football. Football names linked to cycling doctors etc.

I am fully expecting a doping scandal in football. The drug testing windows are fairly predictable and very infrequent. I can't believe that football is somehow noble enough not to take advantage of substances that might speed up your recovery between matches.

  • Operation Puerto found and then ordered the destruction of 211 bags of blood linked to all sports (including football). Those bags have yet to be destroyed because the court order to destroy them is mired in the appeals process. It appears that the Spanish courts would rather bury the evidence than risk the national team being stripped of titles.

I've sat with prem level ballers and watched the powdered mirror getting passed along the room. There's no way on this green earth football is clean or heavily regulated....There's too much money, too much at stake to allow such a scandal.
