  • Best to compare the smaller section of where you did PB on.

    Easier way to tell.

  • I suppose this is our Richmond Park thread, so here's the latest instalment in this long-running saga:

    http://road.cc/content/news/169880-huge-fine-cyclist-caught-speeding-richmond-park

  • I wonder if he bothered with a lawyer, and just represented himself.

  • It's certainly quite a chunky fine he scored, regardless.

  • Could have been a magistrate with an axe to grind, or the bloke being a massive bell.

  • Probably turned up in his lycra

  • Hopefully it'll be appealed and then this will finally get decided.

  • Look like the Cycling Lawyer offer to take this up.

  • Excellent.

I love the various arguments that come out over this from the armchair lawyers. My favourite is "Since there's no legal requirement to have a speedometer on your bike you can't be done for speeding on a bike."

Sure. Just as you can't be done for drink driving if your car isn't fitted with a breathalyser or blood-alcohol measuring device. Oh.

  • Went out today for slacker miles attempt on 80gi and the wind laughed right in my face for the first quarter lap so turned my wheel around to 74. The headwind was punishing but I must have made the most of the tailwind as I was only three minutes off my geared pb (1:02).

RP really is nice, such a shame about the all traffic and cyclist altercations that effect most people's enjoyment at off-peak hours.

  • RP really is nice

I occasionally miss it; then instantly get reminded by the fact that 'country' lanes are 6.5 miles away for me ..

Did you do anti or clock? Headwind is a neutraliser in terms of time since its a circle essentially and especially if you are fixed. Funnily enough I have got some of my best times around when I did intervals in the park and relaxed in between. What counts is a sprint up sawyers, then sprint up after the first left till parking, sprint up dark hill and TT between Kingston and Roehampton gate.

  • I know RP has a bad rep, but taking a step back and thinking about what a lovely piece of land it is and how scenic it is for being in the middle of London..I think summer is probably the best time to really see it because there is enough light after the gates close and the magic of the place is very clear to see. But this also goes to show how easily a bunch of cars and some self-righteous exercise twats can ruin something extraordinary.

I did CC loops. You're right the headwind must even itself out because it's a loop, but that does make it more like an interval effort as opposed to a steady push (which is what made the high gearing unworkable for me). And since you say it like that actually it makes me think it was pretty good practice for spinning, keeping it at 25mph during the Kingston and Roehampton gate was spinnier than I'd like but a nice effort and good concentrate on the smooth pedal stroke.

FFS the amount of shit I talk on the internet...

  • FFS the amount of shit I talk on the internet...

Keep it up, thats what the internet is for.

  • What's the problem with RP? It's full of cars and roadie zipp cunts? Is that the main point of contention?

It's more magical at night. When you break in. Go then.

First timed lap anti - 54.01.Much funzz

Nope, the headwind slows you down more than the tailwind speeds you up. The more wind the slower the times (for the same total effort). Ask a tester...

  • It's more magical at night. When you break in.

No need to break in, it's open to cyclists and pedestrians throughout the night (except when there's a deer cull going on).

  • in the middle of London

Pffft, it's really rather far off to one side.

  • I wonder if killing is necessary or just an easy / cheap option..

  • the deer or the roadie zipp cunts?

  • the deer or the roadie zipp cunts?

Some of the worst/closest overtaking I've had in the park has been from cars with bikes in/on the back, more often than not the bikes have deep section wheels.

  • Hi all,

first post here, anyway I've been wanting to have a go at the Richmond Park 3 lap challenge for a while now, just after a couple of bits of advice first please?

1/ General rule of thumb, Clock or anti Clockwise round the park and starting from which entrance?

2/ Whats the best time of day to attempt this so as not to get speed-trapped by the park police?

    Thanks

    Balders
