  • So there is much to do numerous isolated surface rust areas to be individually abraded and treated.
    Needs nice stem.
Pic added just to show general direction but with different discs of course.
Anyone with any info - it would be gratefully received (maybe guy who sold the original 4 frames on Ebay or one of the buyers)
    Will post progress
    Cheers
    Si

  • Wowz. Do you know the serial number?

  • Nice!

Don't repaint that front wheel! ;)

  • Don't worry I'm not going to paint wheel - It was just a joke:)

  • Hi, No numbers on it at all.

  • Nice, love these frames.

  • Cheers HHC,
Would really like to find out more on this frame - not even sure what discs to put on it !
Hopefully someone may have picture or info .
    All the best
    Si

  • All surface rust was very thin so brass wire brushed spots with dremmel and treated . Then fully treated inside although was very clean and shiny inside.
I quite like the well used look so little to do on paint front.
Just need to decide on wheels -I still have no idea what wheels the Bulgarian team ran on these !!!! ?????

  • Hi, not sure if it helps, the red, white and green front disc look like a Del Tongo wheel from 1987, Saronni and Piaseki used them in the TTT in Berlin, the Fir disc is bulbous and was called "killing system" also used by Robert Visentini (Roche's mate!) in the 1987 Giro time trials.

  • go italian and get twin ghibli discs

  • Great frame, looking good with the LA84's!

Out of interest, how did you treat the inside? My Columbus air lo pro has the aero seat tube and the seat post is not particularly tight fitting, so water can enter the frame relatively easily. Although I'm trying to avoid riding it in the rain it would be good to know how to avoid any rust on the inside.

  • Yes Italian would be good as lots of Eastern Bloc teams did use Italian stuff.

  • Good to see someone knows their dates.
I just put these on to see what they looked like. Del Tongo is obviously wrong. I would just like to put on what the Bulgarians actually used if I can find out.

  • I make sure inside is dry and then bung all the holes and sloosh about some Hammerite Kurust (about the only one that's any good).
After that the best on-going preventative would be Duck Oil (WD40 evaporates and is not long term effective)
With your seatpost I would insert it with about 1cm to go then tightly wrap one or two or so layers of ptfe (plummers) tape this will conform to shape , is cohesive nut not adhesive and will help reduce any water ingress -any left showing is easily removed with a finger nail.

  • @peter_v sold one of these on this forum once. Advert lists it as a 1980 frame. Maybe he knows?

  • Thanks I will ask him. Though defo not 1980 .
    Thanks
    Si

  • No I don't, sorry, I was selling it on behalf of a friend who supplied the info. This is the original listing

  • YES! Mental.

  • Well I have fully rust proofed inside although was actually shiny metal.
