Boa fastening are more easily fine tuned meaning you can balance the level of pressure versus tightness. My experience on my pair of Giro Codes(velcro and ratchet) versus my old S-works XC shoes (with Boa) is that I much prefer Boa and pressure is more even. That being said your foot has a specific issue AND shoe design has an impact too. I also find that my Giro shoes have quite a stiff, firmly padded tongue compared to the thinner specialized shoes. Go try some on is the best bet.
