  • I put the Evo on my Serotta as I sometimes ride that in jeans, the Composit on the time machine as I usually have bibs on when riding that.

However, I can't say I have noticed a huge difference when going from one to the other.

  • I've bought an Extra off ebay this morning.

It's red so really won't go with the Flyer, perhaps I'll recover it...or put it on the Pompino.

  • Extra if darn ugly is real plush, you'd probably like it on an MTB for long distance riding.

  • Anyone interested in a Forma for a composit trade.

    Want to try composit.

  • Got my Extra the other night, fitted at work today.

Don't think it's too ugly, being used the edge has been taken off the graphics etc.

First impression (sitting on it in workshop and pedalling a few circles in the infield) was a bit disappointing. Didn't feel nearly as comfy as the fake carbon.

Was really feeling the nose 'bump' so flattened it out a bit and felt better. Flattened even more and dropped the post about 5mm on the ride home and think I've got the sweet spot.

Really should read that fitting article...

  • I was kind or suprised myself that after fake -> real composit and then buying hell for my beater, i was expecting something like composit with bibs for riding in jeans. The first impression isnt as comforgable as the saddle needs some time to get the padding to suit your arse. Now it probably is the comfiest ive tried in jeans.

  • Yeah I absolutely love my extra, I rode it down the west coast of the US this summer. Combined with 35mm tyres it's like riding on a cloud. I ride it slightly nose up which looks terrible but that's fine

  • I've now got it set with the rear a lot higher than the front. My rails are still slightly higher at front than rear though.

I think that fitting article mentions setting the position by the rails rather than by looking at the saddle? Or am I inventing that?

  • It's unfortunate that the image of a dog's erect penis came to mind when I saw your saddle @M_V

    "Red rocket! Red rocket!"

Might pick up an Extra too - They're <£40 posted on Bike-Discount.de

  • No idea to be honest, I just tinkered with mine until I was happy. It's definitely a lot more 'front-up' than looks comfortable but I feel like I just sink into it.

  • The difference can be merely that your position is much more upright.

Road bike, my nose is lower, touring bike, saddle is level (from tip to tip)

  • Extra is ~£32.50 inc postage, from Lordgun Bikes, mentioned on here a few times, used them twice and they're fine.

  • I found another, different SMP copy on Aliexpress last week and ordered one this morning as they are on sale at the mo.

    http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/7097089028.html?orderId=70931613759035

Looks like it's got some padding but not as much as the Extra copy. Not too sure which genuine model it'll be comparable to.

Doubt the rails will actually be ti etc but it's a lot more understated than most of the genuine and fakes ones so appealed to me on those grounds.

  • anybody interested in this? its a genuine smp composit that was scuffed and i covered it in alcantara (suede like fabric)

  • Interested as in "would like to buy this"?

  • Put an Extra on this morning for the commute in non-cycling specific trousers. Had to drop it around 1-2cm about half way as it was way too high compared to the old saddle and it seems ok if not amazing. Will try tilting it forwards a bit as I'm still feeling pressure on the barseal region.

  • well yeah.. i might put an ad later but since this is the smp specific thread i thought i ask here first

  • I'm also gonna punt my fake carbon (as I don't have a bike I solely ride in bibs) so will offer it here first for anyone that fancies trying out the SMP shape.

    £15 posted?

  • Nice. Looks ideal for my fixed, I'm finding potholes/rough roads tough on the fake carbon! Let us know what you think of it!

  • potentially interested, does the material offer any padding? is it as 'padded' as the leather that was on before?

  • kind of looks like composit copy. Interesting, even though I'd assume there is no composit-like flex as china copys tend to be overbuilt. Looks like no padding (?)

  • flex > padding

  • no not really, its a leather like fabric so say 1-2mm thick. the leather before it didnt offer any padding either, was a bit thicker though.

  • flex > padding

the china carbon shape seems to be perfect but using it daily literally caused ball ache, I had to stop using it. Not sure if the lack of padding or flex.

  • this is the before
