  • So I managed to lock my Kryptonite Evolution Mini and pull the key out in a way, that the discs in the lock are misaligned and I can't reinsert my key.
My bike is now wonderfully locked at a subway restaurant and I can't unlock it.
I have tried flooding the lock with lubricant, wiggling, tapping, anything. Trying to realign the discs with a hairpin.. nothing.
Now my beloved bike is sleeping outside.

Any idea how to get this open? I have come to terms with the fact that I probably need a new lock, as my dad is trying to find a suitable bolt cropper, but I wouldnt like to resort to such methods...

  • That sounds odd. Can you not insert the key one disc at a time, rotating a little each time?
If you have a spare key, try that. It's possible that the key you use daily has become twisted, but that would cause a problem unlocking, not simply inserting the key...

  • The discs only rotate when the disc before that is engaged. And I can't engage the disc before the twisted one, because the key stops at the twisted disc and doesn't fully insert.
It's like the Lock Pick Protection keeps me out. :-/
I have tried a fresh key.

@bothwell the external sleeve is fine, its really inside the lock that things are stuck.

In other news: I have written to Kryptonite, and while they haven't been helpful as to how to align the discs again ("you could try a small flathead screwdriver"), I probably will get a replacement lock, if I need to cut this one.
    Nice.
