the point is, hambreath is dangerously speculating on the cause of an airline crash - If he has any special insights or information he should make it public, until then, people are going to speculate that his reasons for shooting his mouth off are part of a larger agenda.

Can't said tourists just hop in a cab to jolly old Israel and enjoy the tightest airport security the world has to offer?
-
• #37329
They'd have to travel through Sinai via jeep for that. Highly unwise.
I really hope it wasn't a bomb. The Sinai is a beautiful part of the world with very friendly hospital people. The workers in the hotels, local restaurant owners, cabbies, cleaners etc will be devastated by this. Fingers crossed it was due to a faulty plane but not looking likely.
There is the other conspiracy option though but I'll probably leave that for the conspiracy thread. And yes, the security at Sharm is a bit of a joke. Having been there many, many times, most of the officials are just standing about smoking, drinking coffee and shouting at one another. It's pretty chaotic but what can be done with a former military airport in the middle of the desert that was never built to handle the massive number of people going through it daily?

Well the U.S. also has intercepted communications from an IS affiliate which suggests they planted a bomb on the plane. Good enough?
They're not saying that a bomb was the definite cause, but that given that it seems likely they don't want to risk letting 20,000 Brits fly back from Sharm in case they get blown out of the sky.
Seems reasonable to me.

it may have been a Russian planted device in order to further putin's aims in the region

Exactly, or a Brit planted device to help push through the new snoopers charter and stir up more fear in the UK.
Who knows what the fuck to think anymore -
• #37333
Yeah, it could be bad for a lot of people's livelihoods in the region but I doubt that was at the top of the perpetrator's mind.
I wonder if it was done by a Russian or Ukrainian IS member... There's a bunch of 'em.
RT posted this picture of these chaps in their rather fetching gardenin Latakia air base

The UK govt can and should assist its citizens in returning home safely if there is a pronounced security risk - pigfucker speculating on the causes of the incident that precipitated said risk is unhelpful at best, even if it does turn out to be a berm.

Well it worked for bush so why not try again !

Yep, totally counterproductive. He's milking it.
They could just send some transports over but that could be an overreaction.
-
• #37337
if he can get this pinned on the usual baddies in time, he'll win some much needed support for his syrian bombing campaign. a happy coincidence as far as he's concerned.

Or Putin gave them a BUK, which we've seen is definitely capable of downing an aircraft at that altitude.

• #37339
He don't give a BUK.

Oh if only there were a large, accessible body of water close to Sharm El-Sheikh that could allow easy access to somewhere like Eliat or Suez.

What I don't get:
Possible bomb on plane via A N Other airport.
Ground all flights from said airport.
D'you really think, if they've just done a bomb from said airport, the beard guys um sorry bad guys would immediately attempt the exact same thing? Well duh! If course! Meanwhile other flights in the region relatively unaffected.

"
The jet was cruising well above the maximum range of any surface-to-air missile that the jihadists are thought to possess. These are far less powerful than the vehicle-borne Buk system that shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine last year.
"And where did the Buk that show down MH17 come from?
It's triangles all the way down...

I believe I said exactly the same thing about Malaysia airlines when that one went missing... "Oh, that's probably the safest airline now that they've just had an accident".
Oh. -

if you're interested, read "The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb who talks about statistics and goes into some detail about airline behaviour after 9/11
Practical issue: travel insurance is all very well but it won't get you a flight from somewhere where there are no flights. The flights out will be government arranged repatriations with appropriate security, not scheduled/charter flights.
