I am a big fan of these especially because they are alu but they were plagued with cracks esp at ST .. which year model is it?

That's the one. Ive started a current projects thread. I didn't know they were doing a paint giveaway - how would I enter? I liked the idea of giving someone free reign to do something rad, like an homage to a Pegoretti Ciavette scheme.

@mdcc_tester They came with "wolf" forks, however some of these were recalled and they seem hard to find. I think that the soloist and the S1 frames are identical hence why I was thinking of the 3T fork. Either way I like the look of the Funda and it's almost certainly more 'right' than the current LOOK fork.
@amey It arrived the day I was going on a short holiday, so I'll double check mine when I'm back but I didn't spot any cracks on arrival. Were were the cracks supposed to appear and I'll keep an eye out. Mine is in the silver colour way above, which I think means it was 2007, but again I guess the serial number would confirm this.

A perfectly decent argument, and the Funda is a good fork.

I turned two road bikes into singlespeed this weekend.
First one is a 1992 Look KG176, 52cm in original burgundy. Originally 2x7 speed with DT shifters. Nice 25mm Miche aero seatpost.
Before
After
Flipped the rear axle and re-dished the wheel. Usual single chainring bolts. New Tektro aero levers/tape/cables. Running 51x18.
[LOOK has been sold]Second one is a 1978 Motobecane in 56cm which has a 531 sticker but was unfortunately just a 20-40 frame.
Originally running 2x6 speed on tubs with non-aero brake levers. Lovely sparkly light purple / pink - ish / mauve colour.
I used the Saccon aero levers from the Look, new tape/cables/brake pads.
Regreased headset / BB / wheel bearings.
New half link chain and saddle.
I also had a spare Push seatpost in 26.2mm so use that instead of the quill one.#antiporn colour coordination - my speciality.

you've made a terrible mistake

I'd have to agree with that, the improvement to the MBK in no way compensates for the desecration of the Look

Those older french made carbon Look frames were/are so nice to ride.
To be honest, the 2x7 speed 'groupset' fitted on the bike was a bit shit and heavy - 105 chainset / Suntour Accurist RD / Shimano Santé FD / Maillard 7 speed freewheel / Simplex steel DT shifters.
The 1992 catalogue can be found here:
https://pyfrides.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/cat-1992.pdfI agreed that it would have looked better modernised (a la @Roboto ), perhaps with a 105 5800 11 speed compact groupset.
Anyway, built it for a friend would wanted a singlespeed so that's that done for now. He has all the original parts so the case isn't lost!

It does sound like it need some new cabling, few tweak and the like, but what done is done.

Meh.
If it had been Shimano 600 / Campagnolo equipped, I would not have converted it.
In my eyes, no puppies killed here.

its fooked. he bought it of off me. the guy before me fooked it.
there is now a gizmo on there that clamps on the 27.2mm seatpost, and just about fits the outside of the seattube (i reckon 31.8?) and clamps that.
it looked shit in black. it looks much better in silver. well done joe

• #104816
Yeah like Rodolfo said, fooked, it won't hold tight enough without the gizmo

So I now have the bike in front of me, and inspired by @amey 's post up-page, I'm double and triple checking for cracks.
It seems that most cracks appear in the area just below the seatpost clamp e.g. here:
Thankfully, I can't see any cracks on mine, although I do discover that the seat tube has a brass shim inserted. A quick google suggests that these were officially supplied by Cervelo in an attempt to solve the issue of the seat post being too small for the seat tube.
I guess the safest thing is to use the shim and make sure I don't over torque the seat post clamp. Unfortunately clicking on the relevant user manual on the Cervelo website just takes you to a generic and recent manual so it's hard to say which of the several listed values to use, but my best guess is this:
Non-round seattube collar (R3, R5, Rca) - 6 Nm
Note that collar & bolt must be greased; aluminum seatposts greased, carbon seatposts coated in carbon assembly compound.Does anyone know anything more about the tendency of these frames to develop cracks and where else I should look before it's too late to raise an eBay dispute? Any Advice to minimise the chances of the frame developing cracks in the future?

wait till you see the tires.
Did Soloists come with 3T forks? I'd have guessed that Cervelo replaced the Soloist with the S series before they started using 3T forks.
