it's a marketing gimmick
How come? This https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium_alloy#Scandium.E2.80.93aluminium at least sounds impressively technical. Interested because

Because they're not Scandium, they're just a different aluminium alloy. You wouldn't call your 6061 frame Magnesium.
-
• #47504
Yeah, but the frame doesn't
sayclaim it's made out of scandium, the sticker reads scandium 7000. If, as the wikipedia article suggests, scandium has an actual significant function in the alloy, then I don't see how it's just a marketing gimmick. Whether it makes any difference for my use is another matter, but I think that's generally besides the point, and particularly for this topic :) -

When says scandium or magnesium it is assumed an alloy derivative of. Otherwise yo bike would combust in teh rain. It would also be worth miwyons. Obvs they are introduced to stiffen the Base material. 😀

I was going to try the crankset out but the local shop here who used them on a few builds said although its bcd is 144 but when they tried other chainrings they wouldnt quite fit on. They found they could only use Ridea chain rings as others were just slightly too small. (maybe a bad batch but certainly put me off from trying anyway)

it's a shit version of Rotor, why bother?

from Classifieds, now sold. Absolutely 10/10 imo. Exactly how I would build it
-
• #47510
And they are more expensive that Rotors aswell.

If it had enough scandium in it to make much of a difference the frame would cost $75000 in raw material
-
• #47512
Faultless aside from I would have the "Dura Ace" on the chainring opposing the crank.
But yeah, perfect.

well, if we're going to be PICKY about it, I'd have 75's and a black 75 ring. Mainly because I do not care for groupset completionism but ya kno it's still 💯

fvcking rad

I think even a small amount makes a fair amount of difference to the properties of the frame. Enough to term the alloy as scandium or magnesium respectively. #Justsayin

That wikipedia article states 0.1 to 0.5% weight, which would mean 1.5 to 7.5 grams of scandium for a 1.5kg frame.

'Scandium' was just shorthand for 'really light alloy frame which will crack at the bottom bracket after one season', see also 'Bianchi'......

No lock is invulnerable and that one is light and fits my pocket, if you want your bike outside for the night it'll rust...
