I think the Pave rim is just a badged-up Kinlin XC-279 anyway, but no doubt someone here can confirm if that's right or not.

Sounds about right - I've never loved my set. Needed re-tensioning twice and they were built by the same person that has built 3 other wheel sets for me. None of those have needed fixing.
I'm still running them as my wet weather set but they have gone mildly out of true again so... more anecdotal evidence etc.
Best rims I've used have been DT and so far the Pave 28's from superstar are excellent.
