  • I have yet to see a rim damaged by the wrong pad. I have seen some rims damaged by the use of pads that have already been used on alloy rims (there is alloy deposited in the pad material and that scratches the rims).
    All pad makers have carbon rim specific pads these days and they are all fine in respect of damage on any carbon rims. There is a warranty issue, true, but that is mainly to get you to buy the wheel makers pads too.
    The problem isn't destroying the rim, it is the lack of braking on wet rims, and heat build up on long descents, which can then damage the rims.
