I think you'd be really nice and warm for the first five minutes, then unbearably hot.

Depends where you are. For a non-maritime climate, the hardshell would be ideal.

I may have misunderstood - I thought the suggestion was that PTJ+rain jacket was equivalent to hardshell.

Boring question but how huge a difference is there between pro-team soft shell and pt jersey? I've a short sleeve Gabba and arm warmers, and a rapha hardshell (which is now pretty fucked) so don't know whether to just save and spunk on another hardshell or go ptj/ptss...
