I've commuted year round on Formula track hubs front and rear for a similar timeframe as your Halos. Have never serviced them and still buttery smooth and have never missed a beat. Could be an option.

mee formula too.

I suppose bolt-ons (there's an e-bay seller that does modified Novatec hubs for a good price that take a bolt-on cog) is a new development, other than that not sure the technology really changed.
There's also a hub place that does a spline interface instead of threads...again won't strip as easily.
But I've only ever used threaded hubs, so far so good, but if it's an issue and you tend to strip threads a lot, perhaps those are worth a try?

Miche Primato flip flop, laced to a Mavic Open Pro Sport rim, 32 hole, bombproof!

Cheap and cheerful cartridge bearing hubs is all you need;

french threaded lockring limited choice, so best avoid.

^ Italian not french threaded for lockring. Easy enough to find.

Then Italian it is, either way it's not a common sizes.
What hubs used French thread though? Mavic probably.

Yep.
System-X / Formula / Ambroiso plus a few others. All the same thing.
Dia Comp, Condor and BLB overbrands too. -

Nice one, thanks guys. Think I'm plumping for a Gran Compe, seems like it'll do the trick, plus I can reuse the spokes as the diameters are the same.

They're also twice the price than the Condor if you want the same appearance.

Shit the bed. Cheers for that, I'd not seen them.

£25 is about average for a fixed rear hubs, make sure you get the fixed/fixed option for obvious reason.

• #15
Indeed. Good call, thank you.

You probably gone and done it already, but On One/Planet X still sell a few track hubs from £9.99+p&p. They're the same deal as those Condor/System Ex/etc. ones.
For some weird reason, they're not in the shop menus, but if you Google it then: http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HUOOLF/on-one-large-flangetrack-hub

Cheers dude. Have indeed already sorted it, but that's a good price. Will bear in mind if there's a next time. Thanks!
Well it was going to happen sooner or later. My Halo Track hub (after 5 1/2 years of faithful service), has thrown in the towel and let its cog thread strip away to nothing. I'm now looking to replace it with a suitable successor, but with it being on my daily commuter bike, I wonder if it's worth shelling out on the Phil/Paul/etc. high-end stuff, or stick with the Halo end of the market (the Fix-G http://www.halowheels.com/products/part/HUHATV2W coming to mind here).
Have used the search, but with new products coming onto the market all the time, I wonder what everyone's suggestions are?
Cheers!
