Nope, they didn't.
Their stories check out, and apparently the prosecutor said they didn't have enough substantial evidence to get a warrant.. the case's already closed.

Not exactly sure how "I paid cash to a guy in a market, didn't get his name" checks out, if they got something more so can go searching some other guy then I guess that's good. Police are far too ready to close cases and not investigate bike theft in the slightest, it's why it's so common in london, if they made it just that bit more awkward when people get caught or even involved in stolen bikes then it wouldn't be as common "I got a stolen bike, lost my money for it and police had a look around my house, fuck doing that again"

Definitely agree, they're far too eager to close cases.. but in their defense they did check for fingerprints but none were exploitable. His record's clean and on top of that, he had put up all his real data (address, phone number, email), so really not one of the usual suspects..
By the way, the detective who dealt with the whole thing, did said that luckily I handed him the case down in a plate, otherwise they'll probably would've taken ages to manage to do anything in time (I had screenshots of the ad, real pics of the bike before it was stolen, invoices and copies of the original complaint)..

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster here.
My friend had her Specialized Vita Sport stolen from near Dugard Way, Kennington yesterday between 9-5. In the interests of being open about the locks as @farewell says, let's just say she still has a QR front wheel and Kryptonite NY.... (Yes, she knows, but, because late.)
All stock parts but with the addition of a stickered pannier rack, and the front wheel won't be the same if anyone sees it around.
Where's the Brick Lane of the South? New Covent Garden Market on Sundays? Anywhere else?

I lost an Alpina carbon seat post with a cheap Btwin saddle on it today. Stolen from the underground carpark at my office in Chelsea Harbour. Thief snapped off the attached mudguard I assume so seatpost would fit in a bag.
Will check CCTV and report it tomorrow. These thieves have balls. The security presence is pretty high in this carpark...pretty much constantly patrolled.

And a black Condor Uno front brake is gone. Very annoying.

My heart would be breaking if this stallion is stolen.
Well done on getting it back!

Just had a really pleasant visit from the po po about the parts stolen from my bike. Won't say more at the moment but they're pulling the stops out.
If you have parts stolen, report it.

This is my post from June. A few days a go I saw someone riding it and then finally convinced them to give it back to me. They definitely knew they'd bought a stolen bike and so didn't feel much remorse. Wasn't the nicest thing to do though.
I also called the police after seeing it and they said someone would call me. Did miss a call from unknown number so called 101 straight back and they said they'd call again only to then get it back myself and not hear from them. Had they not been willing to give it back I am not sure what I would have done to get it back as the police were of no help in the end, even with full police report etc.
Very pleased to have it back, and very lucky. Nothing was really different on the bike, just a couple components.
My bike was just stolen from Farringdon
Bright orange cinelli aluminium with mavic ksyriums and campagnolo
carbon/steel chorus/veloce mixture.Have a video of the guy too so will put that up shortly.
Anything seen please please email me at theo [at] dojoapp [dot] co
(.co not .com)Only picture I have of it, has black look cleats
Oh it hurts...

Always good to hear when a bike gets back to its owner. Nice one.

Has anyone had a S-Works stolen, just seen a dodgy guy walking with one on walworth road. Didn't have time to photograph but it was black with white logo and what looked like DA groupset.

How would you describe a "dodgy guy"?
This is first result for google image search for dodgy guy. Did he look like this?
-
• #12593
...wait, is @eyebrows stealing bikes?
-
• #12595
He was wearing a pretty grotty tracksuit with trainers walking/riding the bike on the pavement without cleats. To me that's suspicious, I could be wrong but thought I should report it if not

Was it Kris?

Not sure where else to post this really. I just passed a guy in peckham with a white isaac TT bike, possibly pro tri spoke wheels? I asked him what kind of frame it was and he said an old giant, clearly had no idea. Took a turning and couldn't get any decent pics.

If it's the guy who hangs around the hairdressers I'm fairly sure it's his. He has an impressive stable of about 5 high end bikes and he's been riding them round there for years. Think he just has a penchant for expensive bikes without having a clue. If he was a thief he'd have sold them on long ago.

• #12599
Let's hope you're right. Definitely looked expensive

My new bike was sadly stolen from inside my work today in Fulham.
Someone managed to get in and steal it from the entrance while we were working upstairs.
The bike is a Cannondale (1990-1996), Black/Purple/Yellow. Only purchase a couple of weeks ago and not even ridden yet. Very sad.
Shimano RX100/R600/Sora Gear, Derailleur, Shifters etc.
Size is 55/56cm.
If anyone sees it please do let me know. I'd love to have it back.

Did they search his house and find a dozen other bikes?
Most thieves I'd imagine have a story at hand?
