Fucking new page.

Trying to post links to a photo on Flickr I get taken to a Captcha page. Then that doesn't work. Then I get 'server error'. Happened a few days ago too. Doesn't happen if I post text.

Edit, Turned off Browsec and it now works, after the Captcha page.

https://github.com/microcosm-cc/microcosm/ now supports db migrations via goose, as well as Go 1.5, and bluemonday was modified to include Go 1.5 testing.

Starting work on subforums now.

Nope. Did not say, or don't recall saying.

The only things that I know have issues:

• Older versions of Internet Explorer (pre 8)
  
• Safari when it's in it's privacy mode (prevents communication with Persona)
  
• File upload direct from mobile phone cameras on newer phones (either files are too large or Safari sulks about multipart form uploading)
  

The problem arised in Chrome on Windows 8 is that the formatting option doesn't work and need to be inserted manually.

clicking the button does nothing.

Why??

Because it's better, and I like more. For mobiles and tablets you give 100% of the space which is fine, for desktops you give an extra small surrounded by two rivers of dark grey.
Why don't let use the space available? But the real answer to your question is: why not?

Because it was tested in a lot of devices, proven to be the best width for readability during testing, and to justify it you're offering a sample of 1 wholly based on your subjective view with an argument that is roughly "Why not!" which is about as weak an argument that could be made for a change that would affect 300 web sites and 250,000 monthly visitors.

I'd almost forgotten the extraordinary lengths we went to picking the width and font size. That was actually good fun, learned a lot.

You can get more sensible use of screen space if you have the forum in a window that is sized just below the limit for getting a sidebar. The line length is significantly better and there is no wasted space.

Couldn't you give the option though? Considering it is responsive anyway perhaps it could just be 'locked' in one format that changes width with window.

Most of the embeds need to be able to presume a known width in advance. Most of the fixed width layout elements were based around the widths we snap to.

That's before we get to the fact that I'm only producing and caching a single CSS file for all sites and I don't wish to make any changes to this.

On subforums?

When I started with LFGSS on Microcosm I thought the pushback was merely the degree of change that people had experienced. But yet, it really is harder to manage classifieds, polo, and other parts of the site where multiple forums logically belong to the same group.

Then I still thought... meh, it will get easier and it will be fine... but other sites that were brand new and had never used vBulletin came online and they had their own issues too.

Then there was the way we do permissions... which is per-forum... it's a pain in the arse to configure permissions for a whole site, because you have to copy a forum's permissions to every other forum.

Finally Rapha started using Microcosm and they wanted geographical forums, and forums within those to manage types of things: racing, social, etc.

And it basically makes sense... and this isn't just change, and it does fix a lot of things.

So what I'm working on is this:

• Forums can contain forums, just as they can contain conversations and events
  
• Forums that are children of another forum inherit permissions, unless they have their own permissions
  
• The home page... is a forum
  
• Meaning that every visible forum is already a child of "Home"
  
• Meaning that the entire site permissions can be set in one place
  
• Also meaning that conversations can be used as notices by being pinned at the top of the home page
  
  

It basically fixes a lot of stuff, but does require a lot of changes.

Oh, and it also makes it really easy for other moderators (hippy) to ban people from the entire site.

Not sure if you missed my post, is there's a remedy I can do to get the button on the comment box to work?

It's a little frustrating pressing Formatting help and manually inserting the code.

I'll check when I get home but I'm 90% sure that this works on my Windows 8 PC.

Highlighting something and clicking quote doesn't (in fact that seems pretty arbitrary across a number of OS and browsers).

Which button specifically... I only use one of them and that one works for me.

All of them, Bold, Italics, Link, Image, List, Quote, and code.

Preview, and everything else work.

System is; Windows 8.1 64 bit, with full windows touch.

Chrome is up to date (Version 46.0.2490.71)
