    Because it was tested in a lot of devices, proven to be the best width for readability during testing, and to justify it you're offering a sample of 1 wholly based on your subjective view with an argument that is roughly "Why not!" which is about as weak an argument that could be made for a change that would affect 300 web sites and 250,000 monthly visitors.

  • Couldn't you give the option though? Considering it is responsive anyway perhaps it could just be 'locked' in one format that changes width with window.

  • Most of the embeds need to be able to presume a known width in advance. Most of the fixed width layout elements were based around the widths we snap to.

    That's before we get to the fact that I'm only producing and caching a single CSS file for all sites and I don't wish to make any changes to this.
