Just started using SP dynamo hub - when I first felt it was worried at how rough it felt but on the bike completely forget that it's applying any resistance

Personal preference and all but I'm not a fan of straight pull spokes (can be a pain to get spares or have to order in). Also I'd want a higher spoke count but it depends on what you want to use it for. You can get dyno wheels with front and rear LED lights on German ebay for around £50. Admittedly the Alfine hub may be better (over standard Shimano) and you have to pay postage (£15) but worth mentioning.

did not know that Shimano did an Alfine dynamo hub, here it is from Rose bikes for £47

yeah, everyone in Brixton Cycles pretty much has one as their dynamo hub of choice, interesting that the Alfine version if it's just a rebadged one is so much cheaper...

Not a hub, but....
I've hit the bottle as a temp fix while I build up an SV-8 wheel - nordlicht bottle dynamo from ebay 2nd hand, plus a generic mount. It's running front and rear ligts (Cyo and generic). The mount is flexy as anything but surprisingly it holds the bottle no problem and I get a nice steady light for the commute now I have replaced the roller.
I have only tried it once in the wet so far which was not a good experience. The light varied between standlight and nowt. I've adjusted the mount and just waiting til the next rainy night to see if it's helped.
I'm not a bottle convert but I will keep it around for those"new bike, not got a dynamo wheel yet" times. Also I wanted to try one out to plug a knowledge gap.

£30 on SJS, only 1.5w but should be fine for LED lights (ie comutting). -

B&M will soon be offering 1.5W specific headlight to match the 1.5W Shimano dynamo hubs. Should be good for being seen in urban environments (i.e. with street lights) probably not enough output for unlit roads. Bonuses are cheapz and vastly reduced weight & drag.

Their new 'supernova-esque' IQ-X @ 100lux is also very, very nice...

I use an Alfine Dynamo on my cargo bike.
It's plenty powerful enough, powers two b&m lumotech front lights and a rear light no problem.
I just put a shutterprecision hub on my commuter/mtb with a b&m iq2 light, usb charging is awesome!

I found several places selling the OneFive not very cheaply at about €90... But then: http://www.xxcycle.com/busch-and-muller-onefive-iq-30-lux-front-light-165rtsndi,,en.php
That's more like it! Now if I could only figure out why SJS charge £23 for posting the 1,5 W Alfine hub, and £13 for posting the 3 W one.

Can you hook up a USB charger to a CYO premium?

Does this exist:
28h
Centre lock disc
Can power Edelux and tail-light?

Will the SP PL-8 not give you enough (2.4W)?

Sturmey
Shimano
SchmidtAll make hubs for centre lock, no?
-
• #268
And that's one of the three requirements- I cannot find one hub that ticks all three requirements

Thanks! I have ordered, after calling and making the guy count the spoke holes (that model is not in the catalogue).

I'll be starting my second winter with one on Monday. Instructions are a bit confusing at first, but got it going soon enough and can't fault it. Had to use the thicker ring of the two for downpours until I happened to put wider rims on.
I think I read that it's powerful enough to keep a USB device topped up, but not charge. I haven't tried as it doesn't really bother me at the mo.

Thanks vm... I actually went ahead and got a SP PL8 in the end... could do with the wheel building practice..

If you had to put money into either the Hub or the Lamp, what works best?
I mean, cheaper hub more expensive lamp or t'other way around?
Winter is coming, so I finally got around to order this for the beater:
SHIMANO Deore XT DH-T780-1N hub dynamo (black)
B + M Lumotec Lyt senso plus front headlamp (black)
B + M Toplight Line Small dynamo back light (klar)
Think I will build it up with the current rim to keep it somewhat on budget.
