Not really, no. It's more tricky to set the jaws on the crank/spider in such a way that they keep purchase enough to pull but don't slip off or scratch/gouge the spider. I ended up using some electrical tape to hold it all together once I had them sited and had some tension. Then you increase the pressure by tightening the spindle until the crank starts to move. The central spindle will push against the BB axle. You may need to consider threading a bolt into the end of the BB axle for the spindle to push against so as to not damage the BB.
