  • Ha, I'm just waiting on .59 for the Zombies to be back, and @Vesalius once he stops wasting time with other bloody games!
@edscoble cheers for those will check them out, I have both the Metro's but they have controller issues now oner OS X 10.11 - any idea if the issues exist in W10? Maybe i'll do a quick Google...

  • Fucking. Fanboys.

  • I might try New Vegas, is that a good one? I dont really want to game in W10 but my options are limited... bah.

  • NV is fun. Didn't love it nearly as much as I did Fallout 3, though. Worth a crack if you're waiting for 4.

  • who gives a shit about custom character generation? it's just devs showing off with almost no value to gameplay.

  • As far as I can tell it's Fallout 3 with a first-person tower defense game/resource simulator built in.

That doesn't sound necessarily bad, but I'll probably wait until it's on sale.

Just Cause 3 though. Can't wait.

  • I hope Fallout has a hardcore mode...

I used to really enjoy Just Cause when I was 15 or so. 3 Looks fun.

  • New Vegas is like the original Fallout 1 and 2.

You don't need to play the previous games to "get" it, but it does help with the reference in New Vegas.

  • Anyhow, final episode of Life Is Strange is finally out.

  • Pondering upgrading my 3 year old desktop for gaming now that I've moved it into the living room and connected it to the big tv. It's relatively powerful 3570k 3.4GHz i5, 16GB RAM, SSD but the 3 year old graphic card is looking a bit more dated.

Currently got a PowerColor HD 6870 1GB (basically an AMD Radeon 6870 I think). Motherboard has http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4315#sp
    1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
    1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)

I know nothing about graphics cards, what would be a decent upgrade to this? Is an upgrade possible or would I be looking at a new motherboard as well?

    Cheers

  • In the sense of not being anything like them?

New Vegas is Fallout 3 set in Nevada, with a cool storyline, and rather more emphasis on the choices you make. I played it before F3 and loved it.

  • In the sense of not being anything like them?

Are you talking background or gameplay? obviously the latters is completely different.

  • We've got nearly the same computer. I would look at an AMD r9 380 on the cheapest end.

  • I'm not playing anything! Uni workkkk...

  • Gameplay :-)

I got Fallout 1 & 2 (and Fallout Tactics) for free off Gog.com a while ago. The gameplay is so bad it's a wonder they led to Fallout 3. The story and iconography is cool though.

  • Did you not play turn-based games before?

TBF I was like 11 when I first played it, was a real tough game compared to modern Fallout 3/NV.

Fallout New Vegas derived from Fallout 1/2, especially with the evolution of the New California Republic that started in Shady Sands back in Fallout 1.

Many characters of Fallout 1/2 were mentioned in New Vegas, like Marcus and Jacob, oh and the Vertibird crashed Daisy Whitman in Fallout 2, etc.

  • I still thinking FO3 > NV. I have played a lot of NV but got really bored. FO3 was fun (and ~400 hours in it!)

  • FO3 was very linear, although I did enjoy the expansive wasteland, and actually exploring D.C. which I wasn't expecting.

Bit annoyed the intro and ending doesn't have subtitles.

  • No, I found them all extremely dull.

  • Ok finally got a sort of working script for using PC easily with tv.
Using DS4 (PS4 controller) with ScpToolkit ( https://github.com/nefarius/ScpServer ) to get native exclusive mode on PC.

    • Enable TV
    • Switch audio to Amp + enable surround
    • Disable Monitor
    • Launch Steam big Picture

    When Steam big picture exits

    • Disable TV
    • Re-enable Monitor
    • Switch audio back to desktop speakers

Minor problem is, if it auto-launch steam as desktop after switching back for some reason I cannot re-enable big picture (without killing Steam). So still working on that

  • What setup is this? Homebrew or OTP? And what connections does it use?

  • Meanwhile, i just say "xbox on" and it turns my TV on, sky box on, switches to the right channel and enables my amp.

Didn't need to write a script or nothing ;)

  • OTP, not as amazing as it sound I'm afraid, it's an Alienware 13" laptop with i7 5500U, SSD , 16GB RAM, a retina-type touchscreen and in the amplifier, a PNY GeForce GTX970 4GB.
