  • Are THEY watching you?

  • Fucking hell, I've just seen this!
I wasn't implying anything untoward at all....my friend has a bike shop and used to service one identical to that that was owned by a very elderly chap....I was merely observing that it is lovely (which it is), and that it looked like one that an old bloke who lives near me used to ride......I was wondering if you knew him and he passed it on to you, or if it was just a coincidence that it was very similar to his.
I didn't mean to get your spider senses tingling! :0)

  • I overreacted. Sorry. Let's move on.

  • Anyway, put some pictures up! :0)

We stil need someone with organisational skills (ie, not me), to get a mercian ride together....there are loads on the forum, we need to get social!

  • Right, calmed down a bit. Here is the Vincitore with some upgrades I have added recently. I am using this to commute through London.
(The server doesn't seem to allow me to upload files, I will do so when its fixed)

  • Here it is. Finally!

Took it out for it's maiden voyage today (a spin around the block) and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable and very smooth. There are a few tweaks to the set-up and ride but overall pretty much spot on.

Not the best picture. My phone camera is pretty poor.
I'll get some jazzy ones done soon.

  • Rode my 76 Olympic today. Put a smile on my face.

  • Ha! Like a proud dad I was.

  • I'm scared to post anything!

    :0)

Another lovely pair......come on, group ride!

  • Trying to post a picture with my Mercian Vincitore Track

  • The Yellow Velo is coming along nicely. First image of Thomson finishing kit including carbon bars and a lovely Fizik saddle with carbon rails. Just saving up the pennies for the gruppo (Chorus 5 arm) and the wheels (CK R45 built with HED Ardennes +). Second image is of trial fit with my winter wheels (RS81).

    A lot of pennies...

  • A lot of pennies...

    Quite.

  • 1988 Mercian KOM with mid 1990s respray by Mercian. 5800 105 groupset and a few other modern amenities. Back brake now installed (and the job was done properly, see my post in Mechanics and Fixin'). Amazing the difference from the old 7 speed setup.

  • I like! Very nice

  • So do I, pretty bike that

  • thanks both!

  • Bought a '72 on the strength of being a Mercian. How do Mercian number their BB shells ?
Only reason for alarm bells is that it appears to be 27.0 plain guage 531, not the normal double butted. A 27 mm seat post seems a lot more of a fit you see.
    Ta for any info.

  • Fleck - that's ace. Love the contrast between skinny lugged frame and modern gruppo/wheels. How have you shod the Fulcrums? 25mm Contis?

    My frame number is,

    21486
    3

Meaning it was made in 1986. The 3 denotes the frame builder.
Mine also came with a postcode stamped on the BB, of the buyer.

  • Dude you really need a different handlebar or move the levers higher.

  • Thanks Tomo - looks like it is kosher after all - will put up some shots when the build is complete.

  • Good choice. Was going to try and get 25s on the Velocita but think clearance might be an issue.
