I thought Sicario was excellent.
Seriously grim and depressing. Went with my better half and it pretty much killed any conversation for the rest of the evening.
Guess it also depends on your mood when you watch it.

did you spot the cameo by Jay Adams?
I love that film.

Walked out of The Lobster. Art house, absurdist shite. Which was manageable, until it also became upsetting as well as boring. Not a winning combo in my book.

As croft says it's grim, but there is a bit of an action film element with lots of people getting shot etc. so it can work both ways.
It was interesting as it looks at two political sides, a more liberal one and a more right wing one to over simplify. You can sympathise with either 'side' and I think that's why I liked the film - it didn't try to moralise about what's going on a massive amount, but left you to consider what was right or wrong and is certain action justified. That might have been a marketing device to get more people to 'enjoy' it.

Finally watched Inside Out. Feel like it was overhyped, didn't enjoy it at all. Pretty weak for Pixar.

Lobster: Made it to the end, found it genuinely unpleasant. Did not enjoy.
Unlike Sicario, which was reasonably unpleasant in a totally different way and I did enjoy (but also not a film to take your bairn to) -

Has anyone watched Beasts of No Nation yet?
Planning on doing so next week, reviews sound very good.

Joined the film club at my uni and we watched 'Paris, Texas'. Really liked it, beautifully shot, good story.
Also saw 'Don't Grow Up' the other week which was part of the London Film Festival. Again, very good. Explored an interesting concept. The director and actors came on at the end for a Q&A which was enjoyable.

The poster makes it look like an action film aimed at teenage boys...
Saw this on an advertising column yesterday -

Trainspotting.
Still holds up.
Soundtrack is banging. -

The way you describe it makes it sound like one of those Fox news things where they get "experts" from either side and then shout over them :p
It could be a shady mass-appeal tactic but I'm intrigued enough to go see it now.

Re Sicario, the marketing reminded me of Elite Squad. Which admitidly is a bit more actiony in parts but a lot more political. In any event, not the naff GI Joe spin-off the name and posters led you to belive.

punisher: war zone. An underrated, overly maligned gem. Sure It's low budget, some of the performances are laughably ametuerish and the script is pretty woeful in parts, but fans of Garth Ennis's turn on the title will find this quite satisfying, translating many scenes direct from the pages of the comic. it's violent schlock, but it's really good looking violent schlock. Does lose points for including a fucking parkour scene. fucking parkour can get to fuck.
doesn't hold back on the claret and the bloke that plays jigsaw is fantastic. i think he's in The Wire. have you seen The Wire? It's very good. The guardian said so.

booked tickets for Star Wars this morning. I wanted IMAX tickets but after an hour of trying on the Odeon website and constantly getting timed out and having to start again I gave up and booked at AMC cinema instead.
