That is genius.

In the end, I cut the cable ties with a knife, used dremel to soften the edges and covered them with electric tape.
@fizzy.bleach, making the diacompe copies turned out to be quite tricky because my metal sheet did not hold the shape.

Melt the sharp edge with a lighter...

i have finished building the bike.
got the wheelset from my other beater. got the chainset from my pelizzoli. 68x110mm bottom bracket is spot on this frame, if JIS chainset is used. 47T chainring and 18T freewheel, easy enough to drive.
brake cables with housing were £1.45 each
total cost is 214.4
i realy, really like this bike. bars&stem combo is super comfy, 35c tyres are very comfortable to ride on.
but there is one problem, rear wheel rim is too narrow for the 38c tyre. the tyre does not sit on the rim tight. what is the right rim width for the 35c MTB tyre?
-
• #31
Really good job! Is it an old 27" frame that's meant you can have such big tyres?
I have 35mm tyres on mavic a719 rims, so whatever the internal width of them is works well. -
• #32
It is 27 actually how did you know? I have just searched for mavic rims you mention and I can't find anywhere the width details.
-
• #33
Recommended tyre widths: 28 to 47 mm
-
• #34
Thanks. found some details here
http://www.kstoerz.com/freespoke/rim/234They are 24.5mm wide so I will try to find a 700c rear wheel with 25mm rim.

Cheaper option:
http://www.mavic.co.uk/rims-road-triathlon-119I think the last two digits in the model number are the internal width in mm
-
• #36
i was just interested in rim width, building a new wheel will cost too much. I just ordered a pair of these 700c wheels, their rims have 25.8mm width. £39 a pair bringing the total to £253.4.

Rear Spindle Locknut to Locknut Length: 135mm
How are you going to fit those in that frame? Its more than likely going to be 120mm at the back. Or are you sabotaging the wheels for the rims?
-
• #38
I had a chat with seller he said there is a removable spacer, once you get rid of it, it can fit 120mm. Back up plan is to user thinner locknuts if it is not exactly 120mm.
Then I will have to cut axle.

The current grips(Rheme Double Blue Grips from amazon)turned out to be low quality, they are disintegrating. So I got these for 7£ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004TGK3L2/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item

back tyre on backwards?

my current pedals can only be used properly on one side so i bought these pedals from wilko for £3.49 a pair. they are not the best quality but they will do.

Cool bike. I love bikes that money can't buy.
-
• #45
But money DID buy this bike.
£260.4 to be exact. Plus pedals and bell above (£264.78).

another one of these cheap freewheels that i buy has broken again. This is the third one, usually from amazon.
-
So I decided to get a proper one, this time Sturmey Archer 1/2 x 1/8" Single Speed Freewheel. It is for 12£ and has got good reviews.
-
my wheels arrived, got a pair of inner tubes for them with schrader valve for 7£.-
-
now the total is 283.74

To match the front tyre just bought the Kenda 700c x 35c KROSS CYCLO for 9£. It is a very good tyre.
I am wondering which one of these valve caps could be good on the wheels

Well on course to remain under the £50 budget

There's some good learnings to be had here.
Cut them off with nail clippers. Leaves a nice slightly rounded end.
