good series I've seen:
BOSS - kelsey Grammer (sp?) is chicago mayor with lewey body dementia. dark. twisted. Evil.
True Detective season 1 - best show i've see in a long time.
Californication - lately I've found myself craving this sappy crap. It's good. -

The Martian. I found it disappointing. Why must every sci-fi movie now have a cast of hyper personality comedians? Also not sure about the visual representation of Mars, was quite underwhelming.
As for the "science" - just as many many oversights and leaps of faith as any hollywood blockbuster.
Even so, I enjoyed it and the time passed without noticing but for some reason I was expecting more. It may be just that I've recently re-read the Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson (highly recommended read if you have a spare month or 2) and that has skewed my mindset.

The Martian.
I was skeptical about this, having enjoyed the premise of the book but HATED the writing, dialogue, characters, basically everything else about it. But it's great. Must be seen in 3D on a big screen, epic.
9/10

Blakc Mass. Top notch cast, great acterising, gripping true story all pissed up the wall by some piss poor directing.
the bloke from parks and rec is employed merely to wear a clearly false moustache whilst looking quizically at two other people having a heated conversation in an office. in two separate scenes.
bit of a shame really because johnny deep is fucking terrifying in it.

Watched Lords of Dogtown the other day. God damn I love that film. Skating, 70's radness, Heath Ledger acting like a boss and even brings a tear to the eye by the end.

Is a dramatised version of the documentary. Casting is spot on

Watched UP again for the first time since the cinema. Fuck you Pixar bawls eyes out
Looking forward to The Program tomorrow night. I hear it's slightly flawed like most biopics in that the audience already know the story. However the cinematography looks ace.

Really enjoyed Sicario. Great cast including Parking Pataweyo (took me ages to place him - his American acent was too good for my ears). Like Benicio Del Toro and he was good in this. Some great music and cinematogrpahy in parts.
Not as tense as Everest (which is great in a depressing way) but as grim in parts.

Is it any good? The poster makes it look like an action film aimed at teenage boys...
-
• #11873
Grim as hell. Not a teen action film. More dead bodies on screen than live ones.

Saw A Perfect Day last night. Awesome. A dark comedy about aid workers in the Balkans in 1995. Perfect script, great acting by Benicio Del Toro, dark dark humour. Could not have been happier with it.

Saw Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal last night. Gyllenhaal's performance was superbly creepy and spot on.
How so? Apologies but I don't think I've given much away. Will edit anyway
