  • Monaros are so sexy, not a car I'd ever really taken much notice of til I got here... Bloody sexy, and so Australian!

  • I'd take a HSV Ute over a Monaro.

  • @Emyr - different eras though. A modern HSV ute and a 70's Monaro - entirely different beasts!
I'd take a Monaro, something about a HSV ute not really being useable for ute stuff would annoy me. Just get a Hilux for that.

  • Joe, get yourself to the Summernats in Canberra (early Jan) for some proper street machine viewing and burnout comps. You'll be immersed in 100% Aussie vibe there.

  • I thought it might be a drop of you...

  • looks good, but a bit kit car for me

have you seen the dare g4? that gives me a rod.

  • I don't get the beef with kit cars.

I get it when it's a fucking Sierra with a pinto and a Cobra body on it.

But when the underpinnings are a half decent chassis and it looks amazing, goes relatively well, and its cost effective, I'm down like a clown.

There's some guy in USA who puts bodies on Atoms, makes them plush and sells them for $150,000

I haven't got the money for one but it's a kit car supercar.

  • Dare G4

And it has provenance and history. It's built by the same family who designed and built the Ginetta G4 that killed so many giants in the 60s.

I prefer the G12 tho. One day I will build one with a 250bhp natasp Duratec and use it for shopping.

  • So now I really want a G12

  • i don't have a beef with kit cars, but that looks like a rebodied z3 or something.

  • did you just say natasp?

  • I want to do this and I'm probably going start with it in a year or so. This is pretty much the correct order.

Take a pre-1973 VW Bug with registration. (pre-73 because of the local laws regarding engines)
Weld everything that needs to be welded on the bottom of the car and make it stiffer
Put some proper disc brakes on it
Some good wheels and tires (911 or something)
    Good suspension
    Redo bodypanels in fiberglass
"invisible" rollcage (one that mostly follows the lines of the car so you don't really notice it from the outside, want to make sure it has a sort of stock look)
Roll the whole thing matte black.
    Get a secondhand 911 gearbox
    Get a secondhand EJ20T engine
Rewire the engine, mount it to the gearbox
Tune the engine to give it 250+ HP
Then it's time to have fun :)

  • I really like the G4. But @Cycliste has a Ginetta G20, and I can't be doing with his'n'hers Ginettas. Having his'n'hers Enigma bikes is bad enough.

  • there always seems to be one or two of the ex-racers for sale. i had a good look over one that was for sale at a mates stand at goodwood.

  • @Cycliste's is a bit unusual - it's the only G20 I know of with a bike engine in it (a Honda CBR1000F). Pity she blew up the engine about 10 years ago and has never got round to finishing off fitting the new one...

  • It was always all about the G33 for me.

  • That's bloody pretty

  • did you just say natasp

    Yu-huh. Is that bad?

It's better than 'atmo' like when owners of twin-cam pintos call them atmo-cossies.

  • just teasin...

  • Or a G4, you'd still be pretty cool in a G4.

My Googlefu is weak but there's a great photo on the internet somewhere of a G12 leading from Porsche 904s and E-Types and things at Daytona (or maybe Sebring). Have this one instead:
