Yeah. Stronglight as above are cheapest afaik. They're a softer alloy so don't expect them to last forever.

Stronglight Dural £9.40 http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/stronglight-stronglight-chainrings-stronglight-dural-130mm-shimano-8-9-10-chainring/strochri300 but if it's for single-ring use rather than just rare excursions to the inner ring it's worth paying the extra for Zicral http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/stronglight-stronglight-chainrings-stronglight-zicral-130mm-shim-9-10-chainring/strochri450

First ride in on the pomp this morning - was a lot of fun. Running 45x18 which was a little easy, but I have Highgate Hill on the way home so may change my mind. Annoyingly the front clearance doesn't allow me to lock wheel and frame together, so I think I'm gonna have to get a new lock.
Will post some pics later on this afternoon for those who are interested.

Glad you're enjoying it.

Err, awkward, sorry. Rest assured I'll make it awesome. And your kitchen is probably better than mine.

Yeah guys I know. Spent effing ages trying to get it to fit the other way around and couldn't make it work, probably just too tired to be intelligent. As I said, test set up, will try harder next time....
Anything else offend your greatness?

Well as you asked... run out of bartape?

Bit of a busy background and will take some better photos tomorrow, but here it is!
Was a lot of fun popping V drifts in the rain on the way home - getting sideways also has the useful effect of waking up peds who cross without looking.
Thanks again @andyp for the F&F and wheels and other bits, and for everyone's help with my idiot questions on here.

Hi Spiderpie! Nice build. I saw your pic and read the description of your brake problem and thought i'd post here for the first time...
I think your cable housing from the rear braze-on to the rear brake noodle is way too long. The excessive length forces the housing and cable to bend up from the braze-on, and then the brake noodle is pushed way too far back, again creating a needlessly large angle.
My suggestions are:
Disconnect the brake cable from the rear brake and pull the cable back through the noodle and rear section of housing. Hold the cable, pull the brake, and then release it. If you can still feel that "unresponsiveness" and "lumpiness" the problem is in the cabling at the front. If not, then it's somewhere near the back.
Regardless of the outcome of item 1, I would still significantly shorten the length of the housing at the rear (maybe by half!) to smooth out the path for the cable as much as possible.
I hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to hearing the results!

Thanks! I was tweaking things yesterday and I realised that the rear housing looked odd so I'm sure you're right.
I'll take a look tonight and update.

Looking forward to hearing the results. I actually have a similar problem with my bike at the moment (v4, tektro v-brakes) and it's driving me mad.

To be honest, if it feel slickly smooth to operated with no friction, just ignored it.

alfine cranks? where can i get CHEAP 130bcd 38t?
I have a barely used 38t Surly (tall teeth and shiny stainless) you can have have for notmuch.
-
• #5399
Yeah it's much better - doesn't stick or feel as spongey.
I don't think the rear wheel is particularly true either so can't tighten the brake as much as would be optimally effective. New wheels after Christmas I think.
Thanks!

Got the tyres mucky (ie covered in cow shit) today - was a lot of fun. Brake issues fully resolved so cheers for the help.
