• Yeah, they are on my Pomp just now.

@russmeyer I think the quest is just to see how much money I can spend.

  • New cranks on the Flyer,

Powder job looks amazing in the sun,

Also finished off the 1x1 and took it for a ride

These aluminium forks don't half make for a harsh ride though, plus the 2.3 tyre fitted in that pic is the largest I'll get in there.

Rigid, straight 1 1/8" steerer forks with disc mounts and big tyre clearance don't grow on trees these days it seems and in looking around for a replacement I kept coming back to the newer Surly 1x1 forks that have disc mounts. Cheapest I could find them was about £60 from Triton but they don't have the 80mm corrected ones in stock, only the longer ones (think the frame geo changed at some point, my 1x1 is pretty early). Infact, most places only have the longer ones in stock, I think I'd need to spend around £80 to get them in stock and fuck that noise so I bought this for a tenner...

  • I has onzas.

    Dey not for mtb.

kona p2 disc? 26" and 29er versions available, seem to have space for something bigger than 2.3s:

  • As soon as I get the delorian running! I don't think they make em anymore and all the sets on ebay are too old for disc mounts.

A Salsa Cromoto would do the job, again though, not common and even the shortest one is a bit longer than the 1x1 fork.

The OG 1x1 fork is a rare combination of short a2c with big tyre clearance.

  • i've scored these on a local site for £23-ish - see a2c measurements on the pic. these are the 26" version. they clear a 29er rim with 35c tire and a proper mudguard easily.

maybe you'll find a pair with some patience! (in case it suits your needs, of course)

  • @M_V, Someone on the forum is selling a pair of 26" kona project forks for £45. He's in leyton is all I remember and that the a-c measurement is 415.

  • Yours were a bargain, those Polish ones are silly money!

The paint on my current 1x1 fork is way too nice, it needs attacking with the brazing torch haha!

Pace RC31, various lengths, eBay. Got mine for £70ish a year and a bit ago

  • @TheShipwright, I think I remember this actually. Wasn't a classifieds ad, just a post in a thread?

@Emyr, what's the ride on the RC41s like?

  • I'm quite determined to at least try and add the disc tab to the original Surly fork.

Not sure how comfortable I'll be trusting my brazing with a front brake though, loading up the cross rack makes me a bit nervous everytime.

  • @M_V this one

good luck all very interesting what you're doing.

  • Anyone know if the Project 2s with the longer a2c always do that via the extension at the crown rather than through longer legs?

Found a set on ebay but a2c isn't listed. I've asked but you know how ebay can be...

  • Cheers, I did search but missed them somehow. Forks do seem to be sitting quite flat though so I suspect might be rim brake only.

  • @M_V I misunderstood I thought you were going to add that long elegant looking disc mount doh!

  • Ah ok. If I was buying a new fork is be looking for one with disc mount already I think. Though adding that mount to a p2 would mean I didn't have to bend/shape it as I will to fit it to the curved 1x1 fork...

  • RC41 is a sus model, I believe Magura bought Pace's sus designs. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/forks-suspension/product/review-pace-rc41-xcam-10172/

Mine are RC31, 440mm. Carbon legs, magnesium castings, about 800g. They're pretty stiff (haven't noticed any unpleasant flex or juddering). I'm using a 130mm stem with On-One Fleegle Pro bars and Superstar Excel lockon grips (quite thick), so any roughness from my unfashionable 2.1" tyres doesn't reach my hands.

  • Yeah sorry, typo, meant to say rc31.

My only experience of Pace stuff has been the second hand set of rc41 fighters as mentioned previously in this thread. TLDR, they leaked oil like you'd have thought only a sieve could!

  • Of course they did, oil is heavy!

    :-)

  • Very possibly. Cheers.

  • I have 2 sets of P2's. The original short version* and the sus corrected version (longer legs). I've only seen the longer steerer (below crown) version on the forks someone posted in this thread. AFAIK most are longer legged.

*threaded and no disc tab unfortunately - plus a wedge of broken stem stuck in there - Although I'll remove it with a heat gun one day.

  • Are you silver brazing the disc tab on? Seems like something that might need some pretty heavy duty brazing to me. From what I recall silver brazing isn't as strong. Not sure though, I'm certainly not claiming to be an authority on it.
