Keeping track of booze units drunk helps me keep vaguely to within government recommended limits.
The biggest thing though is having a supply of low alcohol beer at home for those completely unnecessary "need a beer to wind down from work" or "need a beer now the children are asleep" drinks.
The current tipple (Saino's Czech 0.5% low alcohol lager) isn't exactly tasty and so I never drink more than 2 bottles of it (0.5 units in total) whereas two cans of a 5% lager (5 units) a night and there's more than the govt recommended limit a week without any big nights at all.
I am thinking that I want to make these prolonged abstinences a more regular thing.
I drink far too much and have real issues with moderation. Perhaps a better model for me is full abandon interspersed with complete restraint.
