bit worried about the new manager bump that Liverpool will receive from the arrival of Klopp, not looking forward to playing them this weekend. Was planning on watching now will be in Amsterdam filming, hoping the afternoon is free so I can pop into bar and watch it with the commentators spitting bars at me in dutch...

If I was you I'd be more worried with how your beloved Sheriff MoPo can't see the fact that Harry Kane is mugging him, Hodgson and the football media off by masquerading as a professional footballer.
How has he fooled so many people? He's fucking shite and has proved it consistently so far this season.

Why so bitter big man? Kane's still doing the work, still running, still harassing, still getting chances, they're just not falling. Ideally I'd like him to have some games where he isn't in from the start, but that's upto the Sheriff and Son and N'jie to score the goals that mean he doesn't have to be on the pitch for every match.
2nd season's always harder than the first, and he's not scoring, which is heightened somewhat by the media talking about it constantly, but he'll come good, probably won't score 21 in the league this year, but if everyone else is chipping in with goals he won't need to..

He has a footballer haircut, if you're English and can lace your boots it's enough to get a job at Spurs.
Mike, not sure that the baying hounds will be getting the Mourinho sacking they long for. There aren't many available managers Abramovich would look at who we've not had before. Maybe Ancelotti again? We're stuck with the lovable lunatic for the immediate foreseeable, his interviews have become more entertaining though.
I wouldn't touch the Chelsea players in my FPL team at the moment, let alone be stuck managing them, no doubt he's dreamed of pulling the plug.

Didn't want to come across bitter but, he's pretty fucking useless isn't he?
Granted I haven't read the Guardian reports or watched him closely on the highlights shows like you, but the two England matches just gone pretty much proved how shit he really is. He had a ton of shots yesterday against a League 1 level keeper and the only trouble he caused him was when he hit the post (missed the target) and the ball rebounded in off the back of the keeper.
He offers nothing to open play except being a target for Shelvey/Cahill long balls and even then he rarely links up with anyone around him.
I'm happy for him to prove me wrong, but I can't see how one purple patch of form last season has transformed him into the next big thing that everyone is hyping up.

was never part of the hype machine, he had a great season last year, but that was his first sustained spell of leading the line for us. He's played well for us without scoring the chances presented to him, or that he makes on his own. He's still holding up the ball, dropping deep, or chasing those passes that look like lost causes and then he turns into a throw in, corner, or snatches away to start an attack out of nothing. He's still taking on defenders in that slightly awkward way of his, and hitting long shots, on target but not having as much success as he did last year. He's improving in the all around side of his game, without doing what strikers are paid to do and score goals.
But as said previously, we've got pace around him now to feed off his possession, and to run past into dangerous areas, to hopefully score the goals that he might have had to convert by himself last season.
As with all young players he's a work in progress, and you've fallen prey to the boom or bust/ fantastic or shite story arc. Look forward to your defence of Will Hughes when he comes back from injury and sets the team on fire in a couple of matches but then drifts out of the game in others...
On another note, hoping Lamela keeps on progressing. Liked what he's shown so far...

But no one who counts thought he was the next big thing did they? Otherwise one of the big clubs would have swooped for him in the summer.
The worry for him is that it doesn't look like defenders have worked him out, he doesn't seem to get marginalised, it's just that last season everything he hit ended up in the net, this season it ends up in the stands, you'll just have to wait and see which is the truer measure of his talent.

Kane isn't a bad player, and he's not a brilliant player - he's a good player who had an exceptional season. He'll probably bang in 10-15 goals this season.
-
• #119612
That's not strictly true - he's hit the target a fair bit this season.. he's just not had the rub of the green. Because he's not been scoring he's started to do what Rooney does - drift and/or come to the ball, which means he gets fewer chances and the story rolls on.

2nd season's always harder than the first
Well it was for Ricketts anyway. Shearer sustained improvement over many years as did Rooney as have countless strikers.

Can you sum up in 1 sentence please?

• #119617
Without getting hung up whether his shots hit the keeper, the post, row z or his team-mates arse the important bit is they aren't hitting the back of the net. The point I'm making is that I cannot see any difference in the way he is being played or the way opponents are playing him or anything else that would make me think anything other than; last season he got all the luck, this season he's getting none of it. It looks, as the dwarf statto put it, like regression to the mean, if you know what I mean (sorry to be mean Damo). Of course only time will tell where the mean actually lies.

I was going to mention that, but didn't feel mathematically comfortable doing so, I also didn't want to proffer a back handed compliment to the man known only as KANE!!!

Bang average, one season wonder.

That's pretty much what I was getting at here:
