  • I paid significantly more than that at my LBS to avoid errors. They still managed to get the rear hole off centre. grrrr.

  • Thanks. I take it spotfacing is to provide a flat surface perpendicular to the thread for the nut or bolt head to rest on.

  • spotfacing is to provide a flat surface perpendicular to the thread for the nut or bolt head to rest on.

    Yes.

  • Has anyone got the 45mm PDW Full Metal Fenders on their Pompino? Assuming they would fit, but would be good to know for sure, and see what they look like.

  • They will fit.

  • Would you drill them to fit to the wishbone just like plastic mudguards?

  • The PDW is very thin, least the 35mm one I know of, I'd be wary drilling a thin piece of alu.

They will break if you don't have says, a washer and/or the stay putting stress in bending the mudguard where it doesn't want to bend.

  • I'm sure I read on here the slots were meant to be aligned to limit interaction between the clamp and the tube surface...

  • If you can find the post, do let us know so we can all point and laugh.

  • I didn't think a 45 mm 'guard would fit a Pompino. I have the 35 mm profile SKS Chromoplastics installed on mine and the rear 'guard is very close to the chainstays where it secures at the lower point. I'd like to fit a 45 mm profile one but had always assumed it was not possible without modification. Am I missing something here, or is the 45 mm 'guard not ca 10 mm wider than the 35 mm version.

  • 45mm SKS guards have a narrow bit that fits between the chainstays.
Edit: maybe they don't, ignore me.

  • I thought I'd be putting the finishing touches on mine this evening. It all works (will sort some pics out tomorrow) but the rear mini v is super unresponsive and lumpy, and clangs in the lever on release. Any clues?

Never having used v brakes before I'm sure I fucked something up...

  • The SKS guard also flex.

Plus you don't have to tighten it all the way, a couple washer would be apt to ensure a decent fenderline.

  • Good point, clearly a mental block on my part.

  • Any clues?

    Kinked cable?

  • clangs in the lever on release. Any clues?

Do you mean that if you squeeze the brake on then let the lever go it pings back with a lot of force?

If so, brake springs in the right hole?

I tried Vs on my Pomp but didn't like them at ll. Think a combination of the rim being too narrow and the brake mounts being a bit unevenly spaced.

    Cantis work a lot better.

  • I have 45mm Chromoplastics on my pomp, just for the record. Someone add it to the spreadsheet.

  • Nah I mean there's a rattle when it releases. The front one is fine it's just the rear. It feels like a lever/cable problem more than a brake one, but will investigate further tomorrow.

I wonder whether it's my routing after the cable leaves the rearmost guide.

  • spreadsheet

    What spreadsheet?

  • Back in the gang. 39/20 is super spinny but super fun.

  • Oh, and thanks.

  • Nice. I take it that's for off-road fun. I don't think I could cope with that gear on the road.

  • Ah ok, in that case, brake springs in the right hole? ;)

Cable routing at the rear with a V should be a doddle. Did you cut the outer cables? Use anything to ensure the end was nice and open and free? I have a set of Bikehut cable cutters that have gone blunt now but I keep them around as they have a fold out spike that's good for opening up the end of outer, pushing back the wee tang of metal you sometimes get.

  • Yeah, bit of SSCX. Got a 42t in case things get a bit spinny.

  • alfine cranks? where can i get CHEAP 130bcd 38t?
