Peerless guitars do very nice semi's. I have a songbird and its Gibson quality.

Chandler Guitars in Kew used to stock them.

Used to have a Epi Dot. No complaints about it at all really. Flogged it according to the one in one out rule.

^^^ Peerless is a good call, used Hardtail models sometimes pop up for around £350. They're rather nice. Any Epi 335 with a P or R prefix serial would have been made by Peerless, too.

A Chinese Hagstrom might be another idea...

Everyone knows about 1980s Yamaha SA and Ibanez AS guitars but Aria did some fab ones and they're usually cheaper (their quality went bad fast, though, like Washburn's). 1990s Hohners can be worth a gander too, believe it or not.

I found a list of them yesterday, with some that looked great like the Orville ones, the Ibanez Artcore models, Greco. All the really good ones seem to be £800+ though.

That cheaper Ibanez looks really good though. Needs pickup covers but a nice finish.

I was given a little Ibanez semi acoustic thing a couple of months back, the original owner had had it for 10+ years and never played it, sounds great acoustically but haven't got around to plugging it in yet...

Well quite. The guy at Chandlers is really pushing the Fishman loudbox mini but i'm unsure if it's a genuine recommendation. That he was totally dismissive of a more expensive s/h Trace Acoustic thing they also had in stock would make me think so but it could just be them pushing the brand they're a supplier for. Similar price as the reduced Lunchbox.

There was an acoustic guitar lying by the train tracks between Brockley and New Cross Gate this morning. Odd.

BF, kinda tempted by the micro cube for taking my tele to Elvers rehearsals... I really shouldn't though. I need an acoustic amp and am still dithering as to how much to spend.

Got my acoustic back from Chandlers last week. It's fricken lovely. Different guitar. I went a bit mad and ended up getting a full re-fret, new bone saddle, nut and pins, full set up and a new Gator hardcase. The action is now slinky, the frets beautifully polished and slick and it plays perfectly in tune all over the neck. Could be my imagination (and new strings) but it sounds clearer and louder too.

It's got those eye wateringly expensive strings as recommended in this thread on it too. I need to live with them a bit before deciding if they're worth it.

Lastly, I impulse bought a new strap for it but now i'm not sure if I like it. Anyone want it for £20?

Thinking about putting a bigsby on the les paul. Love the look of them, but heard it makes the tuning stability rubbish. Not that my LP has the greatest tuning hold as it is.

Anyone got experience of bigsbys in general?

Might be able to find you a magazine workshop article on fitting one to a Gibson. It'll be a .pdf, and not until I get home in a few days.

Essentially it'll boil down to (a) use actual string tension to align the unit before finally screwing it down, and (b) consider a roller bridge.

I'd leave the Les Paul as it is and buy something with a Bigsby already fitted...

I put a cheap Bigsby B5 clone from China on my ESP Les Paul clone, hasn't affected the tuning stability at all, but felt a bit hairy drilling holes in the damn thing. I agree with TS that if yours is a proper Paul then you don't want to be drilling into it.
