  • I find the surly geometry to be fine. I have a modest spacer stack, a 90mm stem and a setback post, and my crosscheck fits great.

YMMV of course, but if we're getting into personal preference then I may as well chime in.

In terms of reach changing between sizes, or not, I'm not fully convinced that there's an issue with their approach. They produce a bunch of different frames. The trick is to select one that allows you to create your ideal position, no? So what if the 'sizes' don't increment in a given way - its more relevant to identify a body type/ fit preference that isn't catered for, then check if its actually common in the population.

This. People sizes don't increment in a certain way either.

  • It fit you because it fit you.

The only bike in the Surly line up that's actually quite decent is the Long Haul Trucker.

I see the numbers and it just doesn't add up, like paying £5 for a 500g peanut butter when a 250g one cost £1.50.

Functional should fit a wide range of people, not cause a line up to have near identical sizing with only the stand over height being the main difference.
