I'd buy them if their claims about braking held up. If they offer a money back deal once I've proved the braking is shitter than on alu then no skin off my nose.

Unless you blow up.
Tester that doesn't understand pacing.

Why not get Hed Jet Black? Proper alu brake surface, really not sure how much difference they can make to a carbon brake surface, surely pads play an important role?

Because I already own a thousands quid worth of front wheel.

Makes cool rumble noise = aero*

Who rides as slow as 20mph though?
IM age groupers, anything over 5:36 is <20mph

I'd like to see a wheel maker address the TT market, but all these fat and blunt shapes seem to be prioritising crosswind handling and high-yaw drag for IM riders (naturally, as that's where the money is) rather than producing a 'float day' wheel optimised for minimum drag at low yaw and to hell with windy days.

Hed 3. Old Zipp 808.

Hed 3
Obvs., but could it be improved? It's a 30 year old wheel.
-
• #987
Apparently not... Seems like the only advancements have been to make wheels work almost as well with wider tyres.

I need to think about kitting out a bike for TransAm so I'm less inclined to spend another grand on a wheel to save me 3W for CTT stuff.

I thought there was a new version out?
Or is that just a wide-rimmed version of the Hed3?
"The GT3 features a super-wide 26.5mm rim, optimized for use with modern 21 and 23mm tires. "

https://www.hedcycling.com/h3/h3/gt3Is the HED3 Deep too 'filled in' for CTT rules?
-

Gt3 is tub only, though they are developing a clincher version.
Hed3 Deep is better at zero/low yaw, but it's CTT illegal.

Yes, the H3+ I linked to.
I could run a H3D at the Worlds though. Probably be able to use it to kite surf around the circuit...

My braking is better on the HED Stinger 4's than it is on the Flo30's, Black Prince and Green respectively.
I've still got those Black Prince in a draw at work for you btw.
-
• #993
I have none of these things. All I know is that Zipp FC with Zipp pads offer shitter braking than almost any alu rim I've ever used.
-
• #994
Zipp pads are not very good. Black Princes ones are better IME. Still worse than ali though, especially in the wet.
-
• #995
Let me know how much faster they are than what you use now. I expect minutes off 10 times left, right and centre with these..

Paul Lew know that feel bro.

Ugly tri bikes optimised for high yaw angles, so hot right now
-
• #999
Looks like the new Scott... and the new Trek... and...

My ugly tri bike optimised for high yaw angles was pretty rapid the other day. Can I blame those 47 seconds on riding a sub-optimal frame? You know I'm going to blame those 47 seconds on riding a sub-optimal frame.
Pedal harder, you'll get there quicker.
