Still worried about being under distance I emailed Paul Stewart to help clarify my understanding of the process. He was very helpful and said that my understanding so far is pretty spot on. Phew. Plus, you can enter a DIY from his website rather than the audax one and put in the gpx file and gmaps url as part of the form. Better still, once you've had a route approved and want to ride it again you don't need to go through the beginning process as it would get a DIYSE number.
