I thought GP4000s would get me through winter, always been good for past 2 years, new commute 5 punctures in 4 weeks with different tyres. I've gone to defcon 1 = Specialized Armadillo, feel rough but never had a puncture in 5 years of winter commuting. Was moaning to a colleague and he recommended Maxxis Re-Fuse, found them on Ebay £16.99 - will report back. Looking at various forum threads Schwalbe Marathon Plus appear to be highly rated

It's not that so much as surface area. A bike's contact patch is tiny, a car tyre's quite big and flat.
I'm on gators at the mo; fuck gp400s, way too puncture prone. Had armadillos ages ago, far prefer gators. Never tried any of the hardwearing shwalbes though, might look into that.

I've had sketchy moments on drain holes on Kojak, not so much on Marathon Supreme; I thought it was down to the tread.

just gone to an Open Pave on the front, it's such a nice tyre. I have been on Gatorskins since I started cycling, so I guess anything was going to feel better, but so far really enjoying it, cornering especially feels a lot more confident.
I'm tempted to go for the rear one too(28c most likely) , I'm not a skid to every stop sort of rider, but I commute roughly 30 miles a day brakeless, so some skidding happens. will I kill a Pave stupidly quickly? what would be a good Vittoria option? Randoner?

You'd kill a Pave, they feel so nice cos they use soft rubber. Put a RiBMo on the back, 30 miles is still a lot of brakeless.

Really enjoyed my old bike with Re-Fuse's, rolled really nicely, just a single side-wall puncture due to a huge pot hole before they were worn out.

I basically race on that combo. I don't use latex for everyday riding because I've got better things to do than pump my tyres up every day and I'm already way faster than anyone else anywhere in the world so I don't need the speed advantage.
Way faster.
I think I had too much chocolate.

Get 28's. Everyone (me included) is running 25's on their road bikes now so I can't see a single reason not to have 28's on your commuter. I recently upgraded my commuting tyres from 23's to 28's and my life is now better. Well, more comfortable, anyway.

Commuting hasn't been "approved " for some time, hence the lack of tyre recommendations.
Say they're for "gravel/tow path" use, if you know what I mean...
