Rinko is the japanese term for travelling on the train with the bike (very common in Japan).
Japanese train don't generally allow full size bike or even bike bag, but the Rinko system allow you to take apart a bicycle small enough with minimal tools.

It's less the Rinko that I was perplexed about and more someone else being able to remove my pedals without tools/failure resulting in the pedals coming free whilst still clipped in.
^How does this Rinko deal work? I'm not sure if I like the idea of my pedals being removed without tools.
