I've got 1 26x1.35 Marathon Plus in good condition you could have for £5.

How much are we talking?
@lae I fear postage will kill us, but how much we talking? (You really sold them!)
@Howard they are minis, the rear is great, the front bites then gives way, deadly really as when you need it most you find yourself without braking(not an overheating issue, constant, feels like the rotor has grease on it, but I've degreaser it and fitted new pads). Having ridden some shimanos I just thought it might be easier to swap systems and cut my losses rather than trouble shoot.

Is there a problem with the hose? Does it seem to work then the lever squidges? Check for a bubble somewhere when squeezing hard.
-
• #7559
Yeah basically that, took it to a bike shop and they took the cap off and pumped the lever to burp it, nothing came up, they think it's a seal, but replacing the seal + labour will probs be more than a new setup... Wouldn't mind keeping the hopes but having ridden Shimano I found them superior for 1 finger power and and with min oil less dramas.
What sort of hose problem am I looking for, actual protruding bubble?
-
• #7560
If it's a seal there will be evidence of leakage, somewhere.
But yeah mineral oil is less unpleasant stuff.
-
• #7561
Can't find leakage, lbs man thought it was a seal/valve in the brake lever/reservoir giving way under pressure. Is that unlikely? It's how he explained the initial bite then instant fade in power...
-
• #7562
I guess the obvious suggestion would be to swap the levers and see if that cures the front brake and kills the rear. Then you know you have a problematic master cylinder.
But what I faff to do so. I see your predicament when a pair of Deore brakes are supercheaps.
-
• #7563
Especially when the extent of my hydro maintenance experience is replacing pads and burping. (And I bled a motorbike disc system once)
-
• #7564
I had a deore go like that, there was a leak where the hose went into the lever, probably the barb being knocked in a little wrong, the oil was making the brake work but then as the pressure got higher with a good squeeze the oil forced it's way out of the hose but was contained by the outer hosing, looked like a little spit bubble inflating. Check the ends of the hose under any rubber boots, I guess it could happen at a kink anywhere along the hose though.

Yeah with postage only marginally cheaper than new ones on wiggle. Stupid NZ prices, everything costs a bloody fortune over here.
-
• #7566
I guess £80 all in? Can get some pictures if you like, think I've got some spare pads I can throw in too. Gimme a PM if you're interested, no worries if not!

XC racing at tunnel hill on Sunday

Frith hill/deepcut?
Potential game although I'm horribly unfit. It's either that or the SBC cycles ride, depends where they're going.

• #7573
Aw yeah

• #7574
Yeah something like that
Lycra may happen

Very tempted as I have a place to stay the night before but hate to be the unfit n00b on a bling bike.
How technical is the course?
anyone recommend a slick 26 tyre for commuting on?
