Heaviest Brompton rider?

Posted on
  • Hi, I'm aware that the official weight limit for a Brompton is 110kg but does anyone know of any Brompton riders that are heavier than that whose Brompton hasn't snapped?

I'm 140kg btw, so at my intended weight loss rate of one to two kilograms a month the soonest I could be under the weight limit would be a year, but with my current commuting routine I could really do with having a Brompton sooner than that.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

  • I gave my girlfriend a backie on my Brompton while slightly sloshed once. It snapped, but it was about 6 years old, and did look a bit rusty on the inside. Combined weight probably about 150kg.

  • I used to worry about the 110kg limit to. When I got my Brompton I was probably close to 110kg alone. However its not a 'hard' limit. I weight 100kg, but often carry a massive backpack with laptop, power brick, locks, change of clothes etc Plus saddle bag with tools. Clearly over the 110kg without an issue. I think perhaps the hard limit is in the 125kg range maybe, and Brompton are just playing it safe.

  • Amount of potholes on ur commute is the limiter

  • ^That is true.

  • here's an old related thread https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/130657/

  • I'm 120KG and carry about 10KG in stuff on my daily commute - 600km's in the first 6 months of ownership, and it's just had a check over... all if good.

I think they're playing it safe (to echo other comments), but also if you are on the heavier end of the spectrum, the bushes on the rear triangle, and the suspension bush will wear at a faster rate.
