• i would like to ask the cx hive mind about a bike which suits my needs... not all of which are cx. in fact, few of which are cx.

    i would like:

    • pref steel frame but flexible to other things
    • carbon fork
    • rack mounts (both if poss, just one is fine)
    • mudguard mounts
    • disc brakes
    • pref under £1000

i'm looking for a bike i can do some mild offroading, some cx, put bags or panniers on and go touring on, or put some skinnier tyres on and ride it on the road/commute on it. because it'd do multiple jobs i'm happy to fork out for a thing that'll last (and i want it to last) but don't actually, um, have any money so looking for as cheap as possible.

laner suggested the arkose which is rad but i hate the colour and would rather have steel.... and because i'm a terrible hipster i was looking at the allcity macho king (which doesn't even have the mounts i need but does have a Sweet Fade). genesis bikes look really expensive. i don't know a lot about these types of bikes so open to ideas.

Thats at least 4 bikes you are talking about there ;)
    Dibs laner's BMW.

In all seriousness, combining bikes has NEVER worked out well for me.

  • well, i think it's possible. there are bikes that do what i want, i just don't love the look of the ones i've found so i wanted to see if there were others.

also we can't fit many more bikes in the flat*, it's beginning to look like we're running some kind of bizarre bicycle mitosis experiment.

*definitely not true but i want to consolidate my existing bikes

  • also he says you can't have it because you'll put brakes and a rack and full mudguards on it.
