I need some advice. I want to build some ss/fixed CX wheels I've got some surly 32h hubs, looking for some rims to take 32mm tyres.

Options are Mavic open pro but I'm a bit hesitant on these as maximum recommended tyre size is 28mm

Mavic a319 rims I know these are very heavy duty but I'm not going to worry about running low pressure and getting pinch flats.

any other options? or your thoughts on the above? Thanks.

I'd go for the a319. These rims work well, are sturdy and the extra width will improve the profile of the tires.

Yes, you're right. Might be worth contacting actionsports.de to see if they can get hold of 32h. I ordered a pair of 28h R460s from them and the €3.99 postage charge was tracked and only took a week from order to delivery so I wouldn't let ordering from Germany put you off. Plus the €'s fairly weak so they work out pretty cheap.

A Pompino with the Ritchey fork (I've put a link over in the cross thread) might be an option. 120mm again though.

my unrealistic dream is to find a frame like that from ebay as I've got canti wound up on my pompino that is a bit too good for it

Looks very similar to my Rychtarski.

Geometry based on my Swiss Cross with adjustments to headtube length to accommodate an external headset. Max front triangle, Zona rear.

Clearance for 50mm tyres,though I doubt it'll ever see bigger than 40mm, it's more about mud room. I don't really understand the monster cross trend: if the terrain needs mountain bike tyres I'd rather have mountain bike geometry.

Anyway, Mr. Rychtarski did good with my specifications. It's a little heavier than I was expecting but rides nicely and should be tough enough to last a few seasons.

The frame came to about £600 all in. Because of the simplistic pricing structure you're getting better vfm with a geared frame.
