Don't be too defeatist about it, though. You absolutely have the power to help, by being a decent human being and encouraging the people you know to do the same. It's not slipping into a phone box and then bursting back out again with your pants on over your trousers and your jaw set heroically, ready to fix everything in one fell swoop, but it's what makes long term socio-cultural change happen.

I ride to work with my g/f and often see her up ahead getting shouted at.
